V E R A

I woke up with a pounding headache. The side of my head felt swollen and my eyes were swimming in blackness.

Confusion filled me of my whereabouts until painful flashbacks of the restaurant rushed to my mind and I registered the fact that I was once again a captive, but this time, I wasn't in merciful hands. I tried to move my limbs, only to realize they were constricted by a scratchy material which I assumed to be rope.

My eyes tried to see through the darkness but failed miserably.

"Let me go, you sick fuckers!" I screamed. My voice felt compacted and I realized the cause for the lack of light was from a bag being around my head.

"Not until I find Delirious," Fong's gruff voice asserted.

"What makes you think you will?" I hissed at him.

"Because I left a little note for him at the bathroom," his tone was surly and taunting. I heard other voices far away and Fong let out an irritated sigh.

"You're a load of fucking imbeciles. You had one simple job to guard the door and alert me if you see someone, and here you are dawdling."

"Sorry boss," the voice was now clear and I heard a distinct British accent.

"Craig, call Beardy and tell him to get here as soon as possible." Footsteps stomped away and Fong spoke to me again.

"You're going to tell me where Delirious' hideout in New York is. Then, you'll help me lure him there by being bait."

"And what if I don't?" My voice was laced with venom as I snarled at him.

His voice felt close and his warm breath fanned against the fabric around my head.

"I'll open you up and dissect you like a little pig. Maybe I'll even blow your pretty boy's brains out after I'm done with him."

I growled at his threat.

"You're not getting shit out of me," I spat with malice.

"Hard to get, eh? Normally I would've found that attractive. Too bad the desire to slice you up is stronger," he jeered in a deranged way. I feel a sharp piece of metal being held to my neck.

"Now. You're going to tell me, or I'm going to slit this lovely little throat of yours." He pushed the cold blade deeper into my skin and I clenched my teeth.

"You wouldn't kill me. No one else could give you the information you need." I could see through his ultimatum. The knife was pulled away from my throat, but the feeling of warm blood trickling down and the excruciating pain remained.

"Smart girl." I heard him standing up.

"How far would you go for Jonathon? What would you give up for his happiness?" My eyebrows scrunched up.

"Everything," my tone was dead serious.

"Perfect. That was exactly the answer I wanted. What if I told you his family's life was on the line?" he questioned sadistically.

"Wha-" I was interrupted by a young girl's voice.

"Someone, please help us! We've been kidnapped!" she sobbed uncontrollably.

I was horrified.

His little sister and his mother.

They were the only family he had left. I couldn't do this to him. I couldn't be selfish again.

"Take me and let them go. I have the knowledge you want, they don't."

"The location first, and I'll consider sparing them."

I heard a gun cock and whimpers emitting from the other side of the room.

I had to risk lying. I knew he wouldn't kill them and I knew he'd instead torture me until the answer poured out of me along with my blood.

But Jonathon and his family's protection was worth it.

"It's on Lafayette Street. In that abandoned factory."

I heard a chuckle from Fong.

"Oh chickadee, I'm afraid that's the wrong answer. You see, I can tell when someone is bullshitting. I guess the easy way just isn't working." A gun reloads next to my stomach and I closed my eyes bracing for the impact, but it never came.

"Boss, Beardy's here."

Fong chuckled again.

"Just in time to see the show."

The bag was lifted off my head and the sudden brightness temporarily blinded me. I was able to make out the shape of Jonathon's sister and mother across from me. They were huddled together with tears running down their face. Two armed men was standing next to them. My gaze shifted to where Fong had went and my eyes widened.

I felt my heart drop with betrayal and sadness started to burn within me.

Standing there was David.
