Caitlyn frowns at the large building before her. "I don't want to go Mommy!" She whines, hugging her mother's leg.
"Oh, baby..." Her mom whispers, "Why don't you go wait on the bench there? Then in a few minutes, Miss Hall will come and get you for school. You can even play on the playground!" Caitlyn's mom suggests, Caitlyn just pouts but goes to sit anyways. Her mom watches her softly before turning and getting in her car.
Now Caitlyn was alone. She hummed to herself quietly, just thinking. A few minutes later, (although it could've been hours, Caitlyn was too wrapped up in her thoughts to tell) a small boy sat on the other side of the bench, Caitlyn thought he looked sad.
She fiddled with the bluebell she'd picked from her mother's garden this morning before sliding closer to him. "Hi," Caitlyn starts softly, she hands him her flower. "I'm Caitlyn, but everyone calls me Cait."
The boy looks up from the flower. "I'm Carter." Caitlyn beams at him, he returns a shy smile.
They became friends and established a daily routine of meeting at the bench and Carter giving Caitlyn a small flower. Soon, kindergarten came to a close, the two closer than ever.
