Phonetics is a funny word
It's full of filly fings
Like numba, pol and eroplane
Vallie, thru and com
Yet we all know or is it no
That it's a complicated fing
This spelling
To tell the difference between
Number and Numba
Pole and Pol
Aeroplane and Eroplane
Or so it seems
Yet a little child will still
Not see the pointlessness
In spelling correctly
Like valley for vallie
Through for thru
Comb for com
It's a difficult dilemma you see
For to teach you must spell
(Or is that spel)
And determine the rightness or wrongness of a word
You dictate
For little children if not led
Will just spell out of their head
Like B for Bee
And peac for peace
And so I do dictate
All teachers be you great or small
Must be all
A working dictionary
To us all
