Behind those lively eyes,
Hides a secret as sharp as thorns...

I remained rooted on my spot waiting for the girl before me to move.

We had been like this for fifteen minutes now and to be honest- us being here was starting to bore me. Not like I even cared about any of them besides Gon seeing as he was the only one worth talking to during the exams.

So it made me a bit upset when Hisoka came back lugging with him the old man rather than Gon.

And now it's just the old man, the irritating girl, and I. So much for finally finding a fun person to hang out with. Why did Hisoka have to get in the way? I should've just killed him when I had the chance but then again it's not like I could.

That familiar sensation of fear at his presence, it was just like my brother's only more psychotic. Hisoka was obviously an enemy not to be taken lightly. I know when to assess my chances and trying to provoke him will only result in me dying.

Huh, since when did I ever consider such a thing?

I snort to myself at the thought before giving the girl a side-glance, making sure to put everything behind me since none of it mattered anyways seeing as everyone's already dead. Not that I had no faith in them but hey, this was Hisoka we were talking about, there was just no way they would survive his onslaught.

"Oi. We should go. They'll be announcing the next phase soon." I finally decided to say, chuckling inwardly to myself at how nice I am for once. She didn't seem to move even after I was kind enough to call her. She had her head hung low, close enough to kiss the ground.

What is she, a dog?

In all honesty, I'm only accompanying the whining girl here since that woman told me to. Usually, I wouldn't have cared even the slightest at people's request, seeing as they meant nothing to me but that woman- I think her name was Rhode- intimidated me in a high-ranking official kind of way and the tone of desperation in her voice coupled with Hisoka's presence... I guess the flight or fight instinct got to me hence why I ended up dragging her along when I could have just left her behind to fend for herself.

It's only been the first phase and already Gon's attitude is somehow rubbing off on me.

"Ahahahahahahaha! I see. I see." Immediately, the girl's laughter reverbrated in the silent woods, relief washing her features after her 180 degree reaction.

I could only stare at her, completely weirded out at her odd behavior. It was just a few minutes ago that she had been acting like a bawling baby and now she's laughing like a madman. It's a surprise how Gon had found such a person but then again he did have a way of attracting unusual people to him.

I mean look at me, I'm an ex-assassin.

But this was just downright creepy. It was a good thing we were far from the other contestants because I can still play it cool, leave her here and pretend that I don't even know her.

'Should I call out to her?' I wondered to myself before shaking my head at such a preposterous idea. What if this is a case of her snapping from the loss? Not that it scares me since I'm stronger than her but still-

"Killua~ I'm so stupid!" She finally said, her puffy eyes from crying turning to me causing me to back away a bit after she addressed me with those honey-coated words. Yup, she's definitely snapped. I guess I have no choice but to get rid of her. Seeing as the others are dead, I doubt no one would mind if she suddenly vanished, right?

"They're alive! I forgot about the life link!" She suddenly rejoiced, her announcement taking a while to sink in due to her suddenly cheerful demeanor.
