She hadn't come back in almost an hour. I was beginning to worry. I'm not sure why, but there was a strange feeling that I couldn't help, but feel. Guilt. I'm pretty sure that's it. This feeling, it was choking me.
Why'd I just stand there? Why didn't I try to help her? What the actual hell is wrong with me? She was trying to help, she's fighting the same war as all of us. Why can't I actually help my allies?
"Can't believe she actually spoke back to him. Such a bitch." One of the mogs laughed. My eyes shot up to see them dragging Ten down the hall. There was blood on her lips, and her eyes were squeezed shut, she looked like she was trying not to remember where she was. The mogs threw her into the cell with me, she grunted when she landed on me again.
I adjusted her so she was leaning against me in a more comfortable position. "Damn. What did you do?" I muttered. Her eyes slowly opened, and she rolled her eyes, with what seemed like a lot of effort.
"Just so you know that damn charm of yours is broken. We're all vulnerable now." She gently pushes me away. I guess she can sit on her own.
"Well that's just fucking perfect."
"It is. One of the dumb asses that broke the curse is supposedly heading this way."
"Really!?"
"Yes. Although I'm not one hundred percent sure why." She laid back on the ground pressing the palm of her hand to her mouth. "Damn."
"Did they just hit you across the face?"
"No," she lifted her sleeve up for me to see, there was a cut down her arm, I don't know how I didn't see it before now.
"Shit. Want me to wrap that too?" She nodded, and I tore the arm of her shirt off and began to whip the blood up. Out of no where she laughed, with her shoulders shaking. "Something funny?"
"There are Ten of us."
"So?"
"If you think about it, maybe there's an even number on purpose. Five girls, five guys. Give you any ideas?" My cheeks flushed at the thought.
"A few."
"Do you think... Nine and Ten?"
"Uh... uh..."
Shit! Curveball! Curveball!
"Oh! Sorry, that was really... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything." I covered my face with my hands to hide my embarrassment. Why am I embarrassed? She's just a girl!
"It's fine. That was just... I'd never thought of it... but it's an odd number now, three are dead. Do you think another one of is supposed to die then?"
"Huh! I... I can't see the future!" Suddenly, she's the flustered one.
"I bet someone has that legacy somewhere." She simply nodded, and I began to wrap her arm.
"So what happened to you Cêpan?" My fingers froze, hovering over her arm.
"I'd rather not."
"I see... sorry, I'm just making this all awkward." Oh my god it's like she's on her period! She's got the most sudden mood swings!
"It's fine, seriously."
"Okay... are you sure?" Shit!
"Well, yeah I guess. Mogs should be around with the food for the next three days soon."
"Okay. Well, what do we do now?" FUCKING CURVEBALLS!
"Just... get to know each other... I think we might need to reintroduce ourselves. Yesterday was a bit... well, yesterday."
"Good idea." She cleared her throat. "I'm Number Ten. It's nice to meet you."
"I'm Number Nine. Nice to meet you too. Also is your blood going to give me AIDS?"
"I hope not," she laughed.
"Well that's a relief, but question. When the Mogs caught you what was it like outside? You know the weather?"
"I don't know. Cold?"
"Any snow?"
"Not that I remember. I got knocked in the head before waking up in the damned hallway, without... Bion." Her eyes trailed to the exit, and she flopped over onto her stomach. "He's probably dead."
"Your Chimæra?"
"Yes."
"Well. I wouldn't say that. Hey how close is that kid?"
"Well... about a couple more hours? At least on foot."
"What about the other one? You said they were approaching slowly or something like that?"
"Yeah, from what I can tell they're descending from the atmosphere."
"Uh... that sound pretty fucking shady if you ask me."
"Let's just hope they're not going to kill us." She sighed. "I'd really like to see Bion, maybe try to live a normal life?"
"That can be arranged, after we kick these mogs in the ass."
"You sound so sure." There goes my damn confidence.
"Well, I'm pretty sure I can set something up."
"By that do you mean you're just going to try and beat the shit out of them as soon as you get the chance?"
"I've been trying that every now and then."
"Why doesn't that surprise me?" She laughed softly, despite the blood dripping from her mouth. She noticed me staring, and her face turned scarlet like her blood and she whipped her lip. "You know you don't have to stare at me."
"I-I um... sorry I wasn't aware I was staring... sorry." I turned away. What the hell? I can't believe I actually apologized to someone? Fuck. What does that mean?
"It's fine. I just... it was kind of weird. I've never had a guy stare at me. I'm just not used to it..."
"Oh... uh... okay?" How the hell am I supposed to respond!?
"I just..." She froze and began to curl up in a ball.
"Ten?" She didn't respond, but just started shaking. I reached out to her, and she reached for my hand, and laced her fingers through mine. It was still impossible to forget about the blood that was still drying.
"Don't... don't let go of me." She begged, coughing up a little blood. I lifted her up so she was lying in my lap.
"I won't. Just try not to move." Is she going to die? Just like the other three?
