Nine sneers at, Five, and I spit blood at him as I quickly tried to regain myself. "You going to hit unarmed men, you traitorous shit?"

Before Five could reply, Nine used his telekinesis to grab his staff, and it zips towards us, but Five caught the staff out of the air, and snaps it over his knee. "Yeah. I am."

Five prepared to swing, but Eight teleported in front of us, hunched over, bleeding, sweating, breathing heavily, but he still holds his ground. "Stop this madness, Five."

"Get out of my way, Eight. My offer to you still stands, but only if you let me finish this loudmouth moron, and uneven freak."

"Let him take a shot dude!" Nine shouts. I move and punch him across the jaw, and he snaps a look.

"Shut up." Eight snaps at him. I stand up, and move next to, Eight. "You're not thinking straight, Five. They've done something to you. In your heart, you know this isn't right."

"Please," I choke out through the blood. Eight placed a hand on my arm, and I shake my head. "We can do the right thing, Five."

He scoffs.

"You want to talk about right? What's right about sending a bunch of children to a strange planet so they can fight a war they don't even understand? What's right about giving those children numbers instead of names? It's sick."

"So is invading another planet." Eight counters.

"Wiping out an entire people." I add.

"No! You understand so little. The Great Expansion had to happen." Five laughed.

"Genocide had to happen? That's insane." Eight huffed.

"You fight because your Cêpans told you that's what your Elders sent us for! Have you ever questioned why? Or who your Elders really are? No, of course now! You just take orders from dead old men, and never question them! And I'm insane?"

"Yeah. Are you even listening to yourself, bro?" Nine growled. I held my hand out, and my telekinesis shut his mouth.

"I never had a Cêpan. I was alone with a dog for years. I fought because those insane people you can saviors or... whatever. They tried to kill me, they tortured me for years at a time. Every day for over three years, when I was just struggling to survive. Tell me wouldn't you fight that too?" I asked.

"We shouldn't be fighting." Eight added. For a moment Five seemed to let his guard down, and his shoulders drooped a bit. He looked ready to barrel right through us, but he stopped and pulled away, screaming in pain

"His left hand! Help me get it open!" Marina yelled. Nine, Eight, and I all joined in on trying to pry his fingers open. In that moment I couldn't feel anything, but anger. "Please don't fight us. You're just making it worse." Marina cried.

Five screams again, and I can hear his knuckles crack loudly, and two balls, one metal, one rubber, fall from his hand, and roll to the base of the tree. "It's going to be alright." Marina says. Eight steps forward, and puts a hand on Five's shoulder. A sob escapes Five and I let go of Nine's jaw.

"It wasn't supposed to go like this..."

"Crying like a girl." Nine says. Five seemed to immediately snap. He shoved away Eight, and he takes flight.

"Don't!" Marina screams, but Five is already rocketing towards Nine, a wrist-mounted blade extends from his arm, one I'd never seen before, but I know just how deadly they can be. Nine tries to roll to the side, but he's too hurt. The grass around him is flattened, Five's holding him. I move in front of Nine, and moments before Five is about to plunge the blade through me Eight teleports in front of me. I have just enough speed to push him away as the blade goes through my chest, just barley skimming my heart. Five moves away, and the blade leaves my body.

My hearing blinks out for a moment as I fall to the ground next to Nine. He manages to break Five's grip on him, and turns to grab my face. "Ten?" He whispered, wide eyed. I can feel the life draining out of me as I take a hand to his cheek, lightly.

"Nine... I love you." I whisper. He looks concerned, and I can hear Five hyperventilating, I can hear Eight's gasps, Marina's quiet crying.

"I love you too." He pulls me into a hug, and I use some of the strength I have left to kiss him. It's then a few seconds into the kiss that I start to blank out and my head spins as my vision begins to darken, until it's completely black.

And for once I don't feel the need to scream.
