Arabella.

He's here.
He's really here.
Why the hell is he here?

I rush up to my front door, taking the steps two at a time. I throw open the door and make a bee-line for my room; ignoring my parents protest for me to take off my boots. Making a right at the top of the stairs, I rush across the bridge that leads to my room.

"Arabella," my mother yells from the library, "take off your damn boots!"

"Sorry Momma," I yell back, "but I'm in a hurry."

I throw open my bedroom door and dive under my bed. I pull out an accident land-line. I spin the dial to the corresponding number to the only one number I can think of. I let it ring three times, hang up, and call again. The phone is picked up on the second ring and my whole body instantly relaxes as I hear the voice on the other end of the line.

"Greyson," Brett's voice booms through the receiver, "why are you calling me in this phone in the middle of the day? If I didn't have caller ID, I would've thought you were my mother."

"Brett, I saw Lucas! He's here, he coming for me," I cry into the phone.

"Arabella, slow down. What do you mean you saw him," Brett ask with concern in his voice.

I inhale deeply before explaining what happened just minutes ago, "I was driving down Route 71  & I stopped at the light just across from Hartwood Elementary. I was arguing with Sadie & when I turned to look at her, I saw him, Brett, I locked eyes with him. I'm pretty sure I ran a red light when I hightailed it back here. You're the first person I've told."

"Alright, Arabella listen to me, everything is going to be alright," Brett tries to assure me.

"But Brett, that's not even the worst part," I interrupt. I pause considering whether to lie or to tell the truth.

"Well are you going to spit it out or," Brett ask a bit impatiently.

I decide then that if I want his help, I'll have to be honest, "Brett, Sadie doesn't know about Lucas."

Brett hesitates before responding, "Did Sadie see him?"

"No, no I don't believe so, but I gave Sadie the ring your momma gave us before she left. I don't know if it'll work; I figured it was better than nothing," I spat out at an impossible rate to understand.

"Arabella Greyson, listen to me, we're going to figure this out. Just come see me at my house as soon as you can," he says cool.

"Alright, but I've seriously got to get somewhere, or I may not be around to meet you," I tell Brett.

"Okay, I'll see you Greyson," he says.

"See ya Effron," I whisper putting the phone back on the stand.
