Sadie.

I sit in a chair in front of a large picture window as Mrs. & Mr. Archer sit across from me on a couch. Brett stands awkwardly in a corner to my right with his arms crossed over his chest. We share glances between each other, waiting for someone to talk. Brett coughs uncomfortably, Mrs. Archer shifts in her seat, and Mr. Archer rest his hands behind his head.

"I'm just going to say it," Mr. Archer says sitting up in his seat.

"¡Espera! Should we wait for Arabella," Mrs. Archer says a bit unsure, glancing at Brett.

"No, Sadie needs to know before Lucas comes down here," Brett says peeling himself from the wall.

"Should I be scared," I ask

"Sí," Mr. Archer says at the same time his wife says, "no." They exchange a playful glance which is replaced with a scornful look at Lucas enters the room.

"Get out," Brett seethes, briskly walking over to Lucas.

Mr. Archer stands, putting a hand on Brett's shoulder, stopping Brett from advancing. "He's probably our best resource here," Mr. Archer whispers.

Brett shrugs out from under Mr. Archer's hand, returning to his spot in the corner. Lucas nods in Mr. Archer's direction while taking a stance identical to Brett's previous one in the opposite corner. The tension in the room is so thick, it's almost suffocating.

"Sadie," Mrs. Archer starts, "you and Arabella have been friends ever since you've moved here, but there's some things you haven't been told."

Oh really, I would have never guessed, I think to myself.

"But it was for the best that you didn't know," Mr. Archer informs me. "Lucas here, as you may have hear is Arabella's twin. We adopted Arabella when she was only weeks old. It's not our place to you why; however, Arabella, Lucas, even Brett here are different per say."

I furrow my eyebrows together before snapping my head towards Lucas then up towards Arabella's room, my eyes finally landing on Brett. I cock my head to the right, squinting at Brett, silently asking for an explanation. Brett looks to Lucas and the Archers before taking a deep breath and closing his eyes.

I never take my eyes off of Brett as his eyelids flutter open, revealing the bright violet irises that have replaced his typical green ones. All the air in my chest escapes my lungs as I gape at Brett in fascination.

"Don't freak out, he's going to show you some things he that can do," Mrs. Archer says calmly, trying to read my facial expression. I nod to her before turning to Brett again.

"Sadie," Brett says, although his mouth does not move.

"How the hell did he do that," I panic.

"Some people, like Brett, Arabella, and myself, are gifted. We have the ability to communicate with people, telepathically, so to speak," Lucas explains, walking towards Brett. "But we can also manipulate people into doing what we say and alter their perception of things just by having them look into these violet eyes. We can smell emotions being emitted off your body, basically smell every hormone. Don't worry, I doubt Brett is going to anything to you, but there's one more thing we can do," Lucas adds with a smirk.

Mr. and Mrs. Archer give Brett a sympathetic look as Lucas runs his hand through his blonde hair. They all look to me with a worried look on their faces.

"I'm okay," I whisper even though I'm terrified.

"Sadie, we can tell your lying. All your thinking about is if we're going to hurt you," Brett says while taking a cautious step towards me.
