A Loner's Tale

Nate Snaps

As I start falling forward I catch myself by quickly using the table in front of me to steady myself instead of falling face first into it. I then quickly move out of the way that way I'm not in range to be shoved again. As I'm doing that I turn around to try and get sight of Jude, but he wasn't there.

"Boo." I hear from right behind me and I quickly turn around just to get poked in the forehead by Jude.

"I win, now for my prize please take a seat and catch us up as to why you were gone for so long." Jude says as he pulls up a chair.

"Really guys I'm not in the mood I just want to lie down and take a nap. I mean I just ran here carrying Yuki and I'm just exhausted." I say trying to get out of this.

"Oh, suck it up Lance it's not like you were bleeding or anything during that run." I hear Nate say from behind my back. I look back and glare at him a bit. He laughs at that a little bit before saying "Yea, I'd like to hear why in the world you were gone for so long too. You have no idea as to all the shit I went through because you weren't here." God Nate and Jude you really had to pick the best time to do interrogations.

"Hey guys don't you think we can do this later today? I mean we are in class after all don't you think we could at least wait till sometime later in the day to do this?"

"No now is a great enough time as any. If you think I'm just going to wait here any longer than I have to, to find out why you dumped all your little jobs on me while you were gone then you have another thing coming!" He starts saying while raising his voice and coming closer to me. What the heck happened while I was gone, I was only gone for two days. Wait a second, was it just two days?

"Hey um Nate, how long did you say I was gone again?"

"You were gone for two fucking weeks Lance. Don't tell me you forgot that, oh wait you forget about everything. You forgot to be here for all those people you normally help out, well surprise guess who has to pick up for your slack! You want to know what else you forgot? You forgot about you promising me and Lucy that we'd all hang out. How long has it been since you actually hung out with us for once in your life! It's been a fucking year Lance! You have always been busy, the only time you make for us is the small amount of time we have at school or when we talk through message, and guess what even in message in our little group chat it still doesn't even feel like you're there cause you are always doing something else! You always are doing something fucking else! You have no idea how much Lucy and I have been looking forward to actually fucking hanging out with you again! You may be helping other people out I get it, I know cause they came looking for you and they only found me. I ended up helping them out for you, you don't always have to do everything on your own you know that. We are here for you, we can help out. You just need to tell us!" Nate had blown a fuse, he went from silent anger to yelling at me, well this is a first.

*sigh, "Nate I only asked for the time, you don't have to blow a fuse."

"Oh no, I believe I can because you have just been nothing but distant and silent to us. It wasn't until a little before Yuki showed up this year that you had actually been acting like you again! Even if who you are is a loner who doesn't talk much you still at least paid genuine attention to us! Now it's just pure silence! You know what, fuck it I don't care anymore talk to me when you actually start giving a fuck again." The whole room was silent, then again this class is just an empty study hall but silence still filled the room. Nate had started walking to go past me, after his little rant, which is probably more than deserved. I grab Nate by the arm and he looked up at me a bit surprised that I did that.

"Nate, I may be one of the worst people in your eyes right now. I probably am an even worse friend too, but I do what I have to for a reason. You've gone through more than I could ever ask of you and if you hate me, then so be it. I deserve all the bad things that are coming to me."

*phone goes off*

Someone's calling me? Who in the world could that be? "Hey one second guys I have to take this."
