Caleb's POV
I woke up to see basically the entire cabin running outside. "Get up! There is a new camper on her way and she might be one of us!" Alexis yelled at me. I ran outside to see a tall girl with bouncy, blonde curls and stormy gray eyes walk across the border. "Swagalicious! This place is totes perf," she said. Alexis started leading her to the big house, so I went back to my cabin to get ready for the day. On my way to breakfast I accidentally ran into her. As I started to apologize, a glowing owl appeared above her head. "Welcome to the family. I'm Caleb, your half-brother," I told her. "Sup. I'm Ann," she responded as we sat down to eat. It turns out she is from California, not far from where Annabeth grew up. We talked a lot during lunch and I think she felt better to have someone understand what she's been through. She was actually surprised that other people had been attacked by spiders just like she had. After lunch I headed over practice with my sword in the arena and I saw the the one person I was trying to avoid since our talk last night. Kay was in the midst of chopping off a straw dummies head when she saw me approaching. "Uh... Hi," I stammered. Smooth. As she went back to hacking off the dummies head, she called over her shoulder,"Hey!" I tried to think of something to say to cover up my stammering earlier. "What did those dummies ever do to you?" I yelled at her. She stopped, running her fingers through her beautiful, black hair. Not answering my question, she looked at the sword in my hand and asked me, "Do you want to spar?" "I don't know. I've been working with a sword my whole life. I don't want you getting hurt," I respond. She smirks at that and just says, "Don't worry. I'll be just fine." I decided to go easy on her, but it seems that she had other plans. I charged and brought my sword around, so it looked like I would miss her, but end up sweeping her legs out from under her. I wanted to win, but not hurt her to badly in the process. But somehow she knew it was coming. She stepped towards my blade, so I would hit her. I barely pulled away in time, so I was unbalanced. While I was trying to keep from falling, she stepped behind me and softly kicked me, just enough to push me over. She walked backwards, away from me, to let me get up. She looked like she was about to crack up laughing. As I searched my brain for a strategy that she wouldn't know, she started throwing her sword in the air and catching it. To show off even more, she threw at an angle, so it twirled through the air before she caught it. I decided to go in while the sword was in the air, to give me an advantage. I clearly needed all the help I could get. I ran at her, but she side-stepped before I could make contact with her. Miraculously, even though she was far from where she threw her sword, it came down and landed in her hand. Not possible. I had calculated exactly where it would end up and she was nowhere near that spot. It was defying logic and that bothered me. I would have questioned her, but then she came at me with her weird sword. She quickly used a disarming method that I had never seen before. I was weapon-less and pinned to the ground with a blade at my throat in a matter of seconds. "Okay. You win," I croaked out. I could feel the blade lightly pressed on my throat, but what hurt the worst was my pride. The only one at camp that had ever beaten me with a sword was Percy. She smirked as she helped me to my feet. "Do you want a rematch to see if you can get your pride back?" she called behind her as she picked up my sword. "I totally would, but I, uh, need to, um, help Ann get moved in to my cabin." I said walking quickly towards the exit. "Well, if you give me a sec, I'll help too," she calls to me. "It's fine. She doesn't have a lot of stuff," I respond a little to quickly. As I walk out, I hear her mutter, "Okay."
