Kay's POV

"Hello, half-bloods." I knew that voice anywhere. I wondered where she had been and now I know. Our stowaway was Kaitlyn. "What are you doing here?" I asked her impatiently. Her voice changes to a happier pitch as she says, "Well, I wanted to tag along and I might have accidentally tripped and fallen into your backpack and then waited until the perfect moment to pop out." I shake my head as I say, "How did you even survive in that backpack? Seriously, Kaitlyn, you could have died." She just shrugs and pulls down her hood, knowing the jig is up. "Jeez guys. You can put away your weapons now. I may be unstable, but I won't hurt you," Kaitlyn said, looking over at Chris and Caleb. Chris had pulled out a small dagger and Caleb was gripping his sword. They both sheathed their weapons and Caleb looked a little nervous. "What's wrong Caleb?" I asked. He looked at me and said, "Only three people can go on a quest. If more than three go, only three make it back." "Oh," I say, my heart sinking. I turn my attention back to Kaitlyn when I see her shrug. "Not necessarily," she states. "Four people went on a quest into the Labyrinth and they all survived. Plus the seven." "Wait," I start, "What seven?" "Are you joking?" Kaitlyn asks. I shake my head and she pats the ground next to her and speaks in a creepy voice, "Come child. You have much to learn." I sat down next to her as she started talking. "Once upon a time, like five or six years ago, there was a prophecy. It went: Seven half bloods shall answer the call, to storm or fire the world must fall, an oath to keep with a final breath, and foes bear arms to the doors of death. Those seven consisted of Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Leo, Hazel, and Frank. They went on a quest to the ancient lands to defeat Gaea. They succeeded, but not easily. Percabeth fell into Tartarus, Leo was blasted to Ogygia, and all of them almost died, multiple times. But, they all made it and lived happily ever after. The end!" Wow. That's a lot to take in. As if he was reading my thoughts, Chris announces, "That's a lot for one night, so I think it's time to sleep. I'll take the first watch." I'm about to argue, but my mind betrays me and I lay down on the cold, hard ground. Before I know it, I'm fast asleep and dreaming. Tonight is different. Instead of seeing the waterfalls, I see two men talking to each other. I creep closer until I can hear them. The older one speaks first, "Four are on their way. One of them is a child of the Big Three. Do you think it could be him?" The younger one shakes his head and responds, "No. I don't think so. But they come from the same place. If they realize who I am, they might kill me." The older man opens his mouth to say something, but the younger one suddenly spins around and faces me. "Someone is here. Show yourself," he demands. I step out from the bookshelf that I was behind and ask him, "Who are you?" He looks taken aback that I actually obeyed, but hey, I've got nothing to lose. He recovers quickly and answers, "My name is Alabaster Torrington. Who are you?" "I'm Kay," I respond honestly, even though I don't know him. He thinks for a few seconds before continuing with, "Are you the child of the Big Three that is coming for me?" Coming for him? What is he talking about? "I am a daughter of Poseidon, but I'm not coming for you. I'm going to Alaska to find a school," I say. He nods and respond, "Yes, you are coming for me. I'm the headmaster of the school. Are you by any chance related to Percy Jackson?" I nod and he turns away from me, muttering to himself. For the first time since I revealed myself, the older man turns to me and says softly, "He's not a big fan of Percy. They fought against each other in a war, so Alabaster kind-of hates his guts now." "Oh," I frown, "But I'm not him. I wasn't in any of the wars that everyone is always talking about. You don't hate me, right?" At this, Alabaster turns back to face me and I barely catch his last words as the scene fades. "We'll see about that."
