Caleb's POV

Poor Kay. I don't really know much about her past, but I did know it had been rough. She got terrible migraines just thinking about. It must suck not having any memories. After she woke up, she explained that she woke up in New York with a piece of paper telling her a few simple things. She knew her name, her backstory, and not much other than that. I wish she had told me sooner so I knew how to help. All I could do was try to understand, but I failed at that. How was I supposed to know how to live without knowing who I really was? That must truly suck. How can she handle it? Maybe she can't, but just acts like she can. I don't know why, but that kind of makes me love her more. I want to protect her no matter what and I won't hesitate to do something for her. I'm so lost in my thoughts that I don't even notice the car is stopped until Kay sits up and starts to get out. "Where are we?" I question Chris, who is busy trying to untangle his bag from mine in the front seat. "Who knows. All I know is that they normally have bathrooms at rest stops," he responds. I get up and grab my bag that Chris is holding out to me. He locks the car and we walk inside. The rest stop is pretty large. It has bathrooms, benches, and even a Monster Donut shop. "Sweet! We can get donuts!" Chris exclaimed, clearly happy with our discovery. We relieve ourselves and buy a dozen donuts to eat on the way. Chris seems happy, but I can't help but notice the fact that we are the only ones here. Something's just not right. I can feel it. "Guys, we need to get out of here," I say as I hear metal crunching behind me. I whip around to see Chris's mustang crushed and broken on the road. "What the..." Kay trailed off as a hydra lumbered towards us. "Don't cut off the heads! It makes two more!" I yell as I dive to the side, narrowly missing the acid being shot at me. "How do we kill this thing?" Chris yells while running behind a trailer. I rack my brain and remember the only way to kill it: "Fire!" Quick as lightning, Kay reaches behind her and pulls a matchbox and a giant stick out of her backpack. She lights a match and uses it to catch the stick on fire. The hydra continues to shoot acid at us, mostly at Kay. She keeps trying to burn the monster, but she can't lose its attention long enough. I get the monster's attention by pulling out my sword and swinging it around. When its eyes are trained on me, Kay sneaks up behind it and catches its back on fire. The hydra lets out a screech as it explodes in a mixture of dust and acid. "I guess we need to find a new way of transportation," Chris says, trying to lighten the mood. Strange enough, it causes us all to start cracking up laughing. We laugh for no real reason, it just helps to calm us. We end up deciding to walk for a little while until we can find a bus stop. We start following the road and see a road sign that tells us where we are: Sudbury, Ontario in Canada. I've never been to Sudbury, but I've heard it's a really neat area. Kay could sense water nearby, so we followed her. She ended up leading us to Lake Wanapitei. I know I should focus on the task at hand, but I can't help mentally reciting facts about the lake. I remember that is is the largest lake in the world that is in a single city. So fascinating and incredible. We decided to camp for the night, so we found a nice spot, set down our stuff, and left to collect firewood. We had a little competition of who could carry the most, but it ended with us all dropping everything and laughing for a really long time. Chris was so determined to win that he even put twigs in his mouth, which got me laughing hard. Kay ended up winning by a landslide and she would NOT stop bragging. I thought she looked so beautiful when she was concentrating that I didn't want it to end. It was nice getting to hang out like normal kids and not have to think about anything. I was just thinking that we were safe for the night. That is until we walked back to find a dark figure sitting on the ground. She spoke as we arrived, "Hello half-bloods."
