Change- Part 2
All the images were flashing through my mind, and that word. Vampire. Could this be real? Did they really turn me into a predator of the night? Was it like the movies? Will I be like, super pretty now? Wait... that's a long shot.
My hair was damp from sweat and I was tangled in the blankets. I yawned and pushed them off, dangling my legs off of the bed. I wasn't going to sit in here all day so I decided to explore. I pushed myself out of bed and padded barefoot to the door. I poked my head out and listened. Voices, vacuuming, burning, birds. Wow, I can hear all that? I heard heels coming down the hall but didn't have enough time to duck back into that room before an older woman noticed me and her eyes lit up in a smile, exposing her completely normal human teeth.
"Oh dear you're up! Are you hungry Sweetie?" She asked kindly. Her voice had a warm motherly tone to it and brought a small smile to my face as I silently nodded and stepped out from behind the door and into the brightly lit hallway. There were a dozen doors along the hallway and a grand staircase two doors down from my room. The deep blue carpet was soft beneath my feet and the big window at the end of the hall spilled warm sunlight into the room.
The woman softly slipped her hand into mine and started tugging me after her towards the stairs. I stopped in my tracks as my thumb brushed over her pulse. My throat burned and I felt sharp teeth push into my bottom lip and blood drip down my chin. She looked back at me with a soft look in her eyes and pulled a bottle from her apron containing dark liquid. I drank it and instantly felt at ease, my fangs slipping back.
The marble steps were cold against my bare feet and I lightly shivered. My pale skin looked ever paler in the sunlight. Well, I dont sparkle. I thought to myself and mentally chuckled to myself. Gosh i'm funny.
At the bottom of the staircase the room opened out into a large bright room, lightly decorated with a grand chandelier that glittered in the sunlight shining through the window above the front door, which was white with a glass design in the middle of it. It had two glass windows on either side of it that gave me a look outside onto pristine gardens that lead to a dense green forest.
I smelt food and was practically bouncing on my feet in anticipation. We walked through an archway and into a dining room with a large table covered in food. My mouth practically watered at the sight and I rushed to my seat, jumping down and waiting for a plate. I heard a deep chuckle and Jonah walked into the room behind the old woman.
He looked heavenly in a white button down shirt and tight black jeans. His jet black hair was slightly messy and his blue eyes sparkled in the light. His grin showed his teeth and his incisors. His full, pink lips were perfect and I remembered how I was pressed against his chest, cowering from Lucas.
"I see you've met Helena, she is one of the maids here, She'll be tending to your every need." He said, sitting across from me. His eyes were kind and his smile was contagious. A grin found it's way onto my face and I blushed and looked down, slightly nodding my head.
"You don't talk much unless you're yelling." He states with a questioning look on his face, his eyebrows raised. I hadn't really thought about it. I cleared my throat and looked up at him.
"Sorry" was all I could say. Really? I mentally face-palmed myself for my lame-ness. His face lit up in a smile and he chuckled. The sound sending waves of butterflies through my stomach. His blue eyes looked almost clear in the sunlight and his dark hair fell over his face. It looked so silky I just wanted to reach out and touch it.
"It's fine. How are you feeling?" His face grew serious and his tone was worried. His eyes were scanning my face looking for a hint of pain. I shook my head and cleared my throat again.
"No, i'm fine, thank you though." I said smiling. He was nothing like his brute of a brother.
"Where are w..." I was cut off from my thoughts when a delicious scent caught my attention. The room darkened and my I could hear a swishing and glass clinking together. Also soft, slow steps. My eyes darted to the door of the kitchen as a young girl walked in with two glasses on a silver tray and delivered one to Jonah and I. The dark liquid swirled as she placed it in front of me and I had to control myself from lunging at it.
I looked up to Jonah as he sipped from the glass, a little bit escaping his lips and rolling down his pale chin. I wasn't sure how long I was staring but he cleared his throat and nodded towards my glass.
"Try it." He said cheerfully. I lifted the glass to my lips, intending to just take a sip, but as soon as the liquid touched my lips I tipped the glass further and downed the whole thing, licking my lips and wiping the blood off of my chin. My fingertips started to tingle as the warmth enveloped me.
A sharp pain struck my mouth and I felt a thick liquid drip down my chin. I cried out and grabbed my jaw, hunching over. I heard a chair screech backwards and soft, comforting hands on my shoulders caressing the bare skin.
"Shh, it's ok. I know it hurts." He cooed and continued to caress my arm. The pain subsided and I felt two pin pricks in my bottom lip. I ran my finger over the two incisors and licked the silver blood off of my fingers and lip. My head fell back and my eyes rolled into the back of my head as flashes of the other night flew through my head.
Walking out of the bookstore into pouring rain, a boy under the street light, a damp alley, silent pursuers, and Lucas's lips at my neck as I faded into blackness. As I snapped back to reality I blinked to get rid of the cloudiness in my eyes and looked up at Jonah who was watching me intensely.
"What was that?" I asked quietly. He pulled out the chair next to me and sat down, beginning to explain.
"As vampires our memories flow through our blood, when we taste vampire blood, those memories are transferred to us." He explained handing me a cloth to wipe the blood off my chin and chest. There were so many questions racing through me head. Why is my skin even paler? Do we have any powers? How come we can eat food? Why does blood smell and taste different? Jonah seemed to read my mind and chuckled shaking his head.
"Ahem." Lucas's rough voice interrupted me from my epic question reel. He stood leaning against the door frame with his legs crossed over one another and his arms crossed across his chest. His black hair was slightly curled against his temples and the nape of his neck. His blue eyes were more of a deep violet and his face looked like it was chiseled out of marble. He looked like the warrior statues I used to study in art when we were learning about ancient drawings and artworks.
Lucas was all of a sudden tugging me out of my chair and I wondered if I could move that fast. I complied and rose from my chair and stood facing him. He seemed surprised with my obedience but the emotion only flashed for a second before his face became blank once again.
"Come." Was all he said before tugging me with him. I heard Jonah rise to follow. I looked over my shoulder at him. I turned back to look where I was going and caught a slight frown on Lucas's face before it disappeared.
