Introductions- part 1

I stared at the girl in the mirror. My usually dull red hair was now deep and shiny like Princess Ariels' and my green eyes stood out against my pale skin. They were lightly lined with black eyeliner and my eyelashes were curled and coated in mascara. They reached just below my eyebrows. My pink lips were covered in gloss. The black dress I was wearing had a sweetheart neckline and an open back. It hugged my waist and flowed out from my hips landing just above my knees. I wore black flats with satin ribbon that tied around my calf like ballet shoes.

Helena had spent all afternoon fretting over me, having me try on dress after dress and shoe after shoe. It made me giggle how flustered she was. Hollywood wasn't wrong about the beauty thing of vampires. The transition gave my hair shine and volume, my curves were more pronounced and my eyes were 'allurring,' as Jonah had sheepishly put it.

I was to be 'presented' to the royal court of vampires tonight at a gala being held in the back garden that was being decorated as we speak. I watched the people running around to get things ready and thought back to my dream.

*************

The red looked startling against my ivory skin, the heavy gold necklace bobbing in the hollow of my throat and the electricity shooting from my right palm and throughout my body as he twirled me around the dance floor. I was surprised at my gracefulness although he chuckled when I occasionally stumbled. His laugh made my tummy turn into a cage full of butterflies and fireworks exploded as he pulled me against his chest, stared into my eyes and then dipped me backwards.

His eyes flashed gold then turned black as he stepped away from me, his teeth turning animalistic and his claws extracting as he lunged at me.

************

"Helena she looks fine, stop fussing." Lucas's rough voice interrupted my daydream. I lazily looked over to him to see him in a black and white tux with a red tie. His curly black hair was gelled back and his blue eyes were dull and full of boredom. Unfortunately he was to escort me seeing as he turned me. I would much rather be escorted by Jonah, but no such luck.

Helena looked at Lucas sourly and I glared at him. He shouldn't be so rude. He saw my glare and his eyes darkened before returning to emotionless. Why on earth did he change me? My senses started buzzing in anticipation of the person coming up the steps. I smelt his scent before I saw him turn the corner and lean against the door frame opposite his brother. His black hair was natural and flowed down the nape of his neck, his fringe slightly obscuring his beautiful blue eyes and his pink lips looked so inviting against his pale skin.

He smiled as he looked over to me.

"Well done Helena, she looks beautiful." He said, looking over at the old woman. She looked at me with her eyes full of pride and I smiled and looked to the floor. Im sure my cheeks turned red at the compliment. My eyes snapped up at Lucas's grunt and I flinched back from his sudden close proximity. I really need to put bells on this boy. I jumped back and scowled at him earning an amused look on both his and Jonah's faces as Jonah chuckled to himself. My heart raced at the sound and they must've heard.

I know what you're thinking, Heartbeat? But you're a vampire. Jonah explained to me that although we drink blood, have heightened senses and abilities and don't age as fast, we still eat human food and have beating hearts. We still require sleep and all the vitamins and minerals needed to keep our bodies functioning. The blood is used to make us appear more human and keeps us at full strength. We can survive without blood but we begin to look like the bony, claw- fingered, pale monsters we see in the old sci-fi movies.

I regained my posture and stared stonily into my escorts eyes. Tonight will be no fun.
