Hybrid
I reached out to Lucas as I watched him turn. Standing up I rushed to the door and called his name. Once, twice, three times and no answer. I was just about to run after him when I heard a soft voice call my name. I turned to see Jonah carrying a silver tray with two hot chocolates and some biscuits on it.
"I think we need to talk," he says, just barely a whisper. He turns and walks towards the steps, without so much as a glance my way. I began slowly trailing behind him. We walk down the long hallway, my feet are cold against the floor and I pull the towel tighter around me.
Jonah stops at two grand double doors that I remember being curious about during my tour. He turns and uses pushes his hips backwards to force open the doors. I was too busy being curious to realise he need help.
Slowly I walk in and my breath is taken away.
The walls were lined with bookshelves that reached the ceiling, there were spiral staircases that lead to each level. On the far wall there was a huge window looking out onto the gardens and on the wall opposite there was a grand fireplace with black, leather couches placed in a semicircle around it.
There was a small area where the floor was raised, near the window and a dark, mahogany table sat atop it. The legs each had different carvings in it. Wolves and a forest, angels and clouds, vampires and weapons and one with a carving of a creature with angel wings, fangs and claws, like a mix of all three.
The room took my breath away as I slowly turned, taking it all in. I heard Jonah chuckle and my cheeks heated, realising he has been watching me gawk at my surroundings.
"So, i'm guessing you like to read," he says and I hear the smile in his voice.
"I love to read, and draw and write." It was true, I could spend hours in a library.
Jonah gestures to the couches and I sit in the one closest to the fire. Jonah sits across from me, leaning forward, his elbows on his knees. I could tell that whatever he wanted to talk about, it was hard for him to find the right words. His hands ran through his hair making it stick up and I had to stop myself from smoothing it down.
"Tahleyah, you know about the three powers?" He said as more of a question. I nodded slowly and he continued. Each of the powers, werewolves, vampires and angels, were all given their own strengths and weaknesses. As vampires we are susceptible to the craving for blood, werewolves the moon and angels darkness." He explained
"We are all natural enemies, but once in a while you will get a mixture in the bloodline. An angel can have a child with a werewolf and so on and so forth. My mother was born to vampire that was suspected to be purebred, but he was not, he was born to a vampire and a werewolf; her mother was born to angel and vampire." He continued, speaking slowly and looking at me hesitantly.
"Because vampire was the dominant gene, she took on the form of vampire, but when she had Lucas and I, we showed traits of the other mixes. Lucas showed traits of angel descendants and I werewolf." He stopped and looked at me, testing my reaction. I sat motionless, waiting for him to continue.
"We're hybrid Tahleyah."
