I twiddled my fingers. I blinked my eyes open.
My ankle bone was back inside my skin and it was in a tight wrap.
"How are you feeling Ann?" Carol politely asked.
"Better, thank you." I sat up and realized I was in infirmary. I swung my legs off the edge of the bed, still aware of a sharp pain in my right ankle.
"How long have I been out?" I requested.
"Only a day. The medicine was very strong on your body." Carol was messing with some medicines on the back counter.
I awkwardly shifted from side to side on my butt. "My butt is completely numb... Is that normal?"
Carol chuckled, "Yes, some parts may still feel numb."
"This is really going to bug me." I told her.
"It will go away at lease by tomorrow." Carol turned and looked at me. "You want to go walk around?"
"Sure, but I will need some help."
She walked past me and went into a "supplies" closet. She turned around and was holding crutches.
"I thought we only had one pair of crutches."
"We do, but David is well enough now to start walking on his own." Carol explained.
"As long as you say so." I got up into my one good foot and balanced for a second while Carol handed me the crutches.
"Now, I know you like to be independent... But, I'm helping you intill you can do this with out wobbling. I will just walk behind you to make sure you don't fall."
I couldn't argue with that.
I stationed myself on the crutches, I use to play on my mom's crutches all the time.
She twisted her ankle very badly when I was twelve. So, when she wasn't using her crutches... I was.
I took a few "steps" with the crutches.
"Not bad. You're not going to need alot of practice. Seems like you have this down." Carol encouraged me to go out into the hall, so I did.
As I was coming out I ran into Carl, again. He fell over me and I fell to the floor.
"I'm so sorry!" I laughed. "Are you okay?"
He sat up and looked at me, "We need to start looking where we go."
His head was bandaged over the cut.
"I agree." I smiled.
Carl got up and put his hand out to me.
I grabbed it and he helped me up.
"Thank you." I shyly replied.
"No problem. See you around." He walked off down the hall.
Carol was smiling at us.
"No. It's not like that." I tryed to explain.
"Uh huh." Carol patted me on the back. "You're good. You can crutch around by yourself now."
"Awesome." I replied.
I thanked Carol and headed off to my cell.
I passed Cheyanne, "Hey Ann. How you feeling?"
"Fine, thanks for asking." I replied in a annoyed, but polite tone.
I continued to my cell. My bunk was on the bottom. Which was lucky for me, because I would of had to climb.
