I love you
I love you
I-I love you too

Miriam wasn't familiar with I love you.
She was an orphan of many in her care home and love had always been a horizon away, a cloud above her head she could never reach.

She cherished those words, and waited for the moment where they would sprout from the mouth of someone like an origami flower. She waited for when those words would be directed towards her.

When nick first told her he loved her. She had to blink. And take a step back. She didn't believe him.

It was after a particularly sensitive moment when nicks father had just gone into remission after an abhorrently long battle with cancer.

Miriam had brought a wave of hope and tranquility to the otherwise hurricane of Nicks life. He couldn't of been more grateful, and in that moment he realised just how much he loved her. So he said it.

And when she took a step back,
It was like a thousand needles were pricking at the now thawed state of his paper heart.

He tried to smile. Tried to smooth over the cracks with superglue. He mentally cursed himself for saying such words. When they held such meaning. He knew how hard the topic of love was for her.

So when she smiled a watery smile and closed the ocean between them with her oil stained lips, he felt like he was invincible. Fire fuelled his veins and his heart melt.

It was then that he had a revelation.
Those words were capable of changing so much between them. It had the ability to ignite a fire and turn everything to ash.

Those words were the beginning of a string of proclamations of love towards each other.

And nick soon learnt that those three words would turn Miriam in to a polluted whirlpool at his feet.
