It has been 24 hours since Miriam was reported missing.
24 hours of frenzied tears and the tremor of fingers.

Miriam's foster parents were in a state of disarray and the police were already organising a mass search for her.
Nick felt a myriad of emotions; apprehension, fear, loss, and regret.

All he could focus on was the what if?

The sheer gravity of the situation weighed down on him and the water presented an opportunity for him.

He could simply drown in his own fatigue and confusion, the panic thrumming through his head as his fingers slipped along the edges of the bathtub.

His chin went under first, creating a slow release of tension in his muscles.

He recounted the past 24 hours, the hours without Miriam who he knew he loved- if the torturous twisting of his heart like a dream catcher amidst a tornado was anything to go by.

Once Nick first realised Miriam was missing, he had called her foster parents who quickly called the police.

The police had been immediately suspicious of nick who was the last person with Miriam, as far as they knew.

Nick had wracked his brain for any recollection of something that had commenced the precious night.

Nothing presented itself, and nick was questioned furthermore.

Miriam's parents, however, had soon stepped in saying nick and Miriam were too much in love. That nick wasn't at fault.

Nick would of loved to agree with them, but something was telling him he wasn't completely clean.

As nick let the bath water succumb him, he knew that he was more at fault for Miriam's disappearance than anyone else.
