when nick resurfaced, his lungs were pumping acid through his bloodstream and creating clouds of thought in his mind.
He was submerged in the water, he had tried to wash everything away.
He had failed to wash away the red wine stain off of the sleeve of his shirt- certain it was from Miriam's stained lips.
He knew he could never wash away the impenetrable memories that were floundering in the surface of his mind.
Because nick had lied. He had said that he could remember staggering from the pool with a drenched but radiant Miriam on his hip.
He had said that he remembered driving Miriam to his place and her falling asleep beside him. Lies had floated from his lips and, in desperation, he had quenched and concealed what he knew to be true.
Among the shattered shreds of glass memories that lay beneath Nicks feet, was the gentle reverberation on the tracks and the wind that had whistled through his hair as he closed his eyes.
Nick had recalled the distinct rush of adrenaline coursing through his alcohol- numbed body, and the relief that had submerged him,
when the vibration stopped and a scream now rendered soundless was deposited from stained lips.
