Mai's Pov

"Shit." I cursed under my breath when I finally realized that I am the only person in the freaking room.

I checked my watched and it says 8. Damn you Zoey and your comrades for not waking me up. Hindi na ako nagdalawang isip na iligpit lahat ng gamit ko. I must go home right now. Masyadong delikado dito sa eskwelahang ito. Lalo na ngayon na hindi ko kilala kung sino ba ang mga kaaway at kakampi ko.

I drag my feet as fast as I could when I bump into something. Or rather someone.

"Easy!" Cried the one I bumped to. Am I that clumsy or is it just this anxiety disorder? I hit again someone passing by. I really need to be careful next time.

"Sorry." I apologized without looking to the person. I don't care whoever he is. My goal now is to get out of this place.

"It's ok. So, how's your first day?" tanong niya.

I rolled my eyes and landed my sight to the guy's shoes. "Feeling close." I whispered. "Am I obliged to answer you―" I cut myself in mid-sentence when I look up and saw the man's face. President Caleb.

"Sorry, it's not like what you're thinking. Ako kasi ang pinag-ayos ng listahan ng bawat section. I'm just worried that there might be a problem." Paliwanag niya patungkol sa tanong kahit hindi ito tapos.

            How fascinating, Mai Reyes. Congratulations. You just called the president 'feeling close'. How brave are you. Ugh.

"Wala namang problema sa section namin." Yeah, right. "It's getting late. I need to go." I said good-bye without any unnecessary movements except that I mentally scolding myself. That was embarrassing to death, dude.

I walk fast. But before I could get myself away from him, words came out from his mouth that really bemused me.

"Hindi ka ba nagtataka?" He paused a seconds. Alam kong kailangan ko nang umuwi pero hindi ko magalaw ang aking mga paa. Tila hinihintay ng sarili ko ang susunod niyang sasabihin. "Mai, hindi ka ba nagtataka sa mga kinikilos nila sa laboratory?"

I felt my eyes uncontrollably shifting from different directions. Damn this uneasiness. I turned hoping to see him but there's no President Caleb standing behind. I continue my walk while my mind deeply attached to that question. How did he know about it?

            Think, Mai. Think like you're a detective. Think like Agent Cross. Pretend that you are Agent Cross hunting Mary Smith. Think like you are James Patterson writing Mary, Mary. Think of a possible reason. Think.

            And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I remember my 15 minutes brain storming that leads to nothing.

Wala naman silang ginawang nakakabahala kanina maliban lang na parang sanay na sanay ang bawat isa sa pag-dissect ng katawan. Well maybe I should expect that. This is an elite school that's why students here were superb. Just ignore the fact that they play with the intestine as if it was a jumping rope. Weird people. Weird people everywhere.

The next day...

I'm an early bird today. Yey. Where's my trophy?

            I can't stop myself from wearing sarcasm because I felt like a potato inside a shoebox. Useless. Hindi ako nakatulog kagabi. Pinilit kong makatulog pero hindi ako makatulog. Kaya maaga na lang akong pumasok. The problem is... inaantok ako.

"Morning, Mai!" Pasigaw na bati sa akin ni Zoey nang magkasalubong ko siya sa lobby.

"Morning too. Can you spit out the megaphone? You're annoying." I told her poker faced.
