"What do you mean you're getting married?" I asked my mother as she walked around the house trying to avoid me. Let me just break it down for you. My name is Emma Rae Wilburn; I'm a New Yorker living in the middle of Texas. My dad left us 4 months ago which is just one factor making my senior year suck ass and now 2 days after graduation my mother decides to drop this bomb shell on me.
"Mom look at me, what is going on Dad just left and you are already shacking up with another dude?" I asked.
"Emma Rae," she scolded turning around pointing her finger at me.
"What?" I questioned, I know I shouldn't be so harsh on her but I can't help it, I mean are her and dad even divorced yet?
"Watch your tone with me young lady or I might leave you here," mom had already decided that I was coming with her to god knows where. Not that I'm not happy about that part I hate this hick ass town, but I don't like that she made this decision without consulting me.
"Are you and dad even divorced?" I asked rolling my eyes I turned on my heels and started for the stairs.
"Hey don't walk away from me," she grabbed my arm twirling me around. "Yes we are divorced, for your information, now go get packed we are moving next week," she dropped my arm and walked away.
Next week? Next fucking week, is she serious? I'm so tired of these last minute info meetings. But she's been doing it for years, it all started when I was 14 about to start my freshman year in high school, 'oh darling we are moving back to Dixie, we want you to grow up like us.' Making me leave all my friends and move to the smallest town I've ever been to. The next biggest one would be one day coming home to a half empty house when my dad left and now this.
"Ello," Lizzie answered the phone.
"Oh thank god you answered," I fell back on my bed.
"What's wrong?" she asked. She could always tell my mood just by hearing my voice. I swear we have E.S.P. from growing up together since we were born just one month apart in Lake Placid.
"Well on the upside I'm moving," I smiled at that fact.
"And the downside?" she asked and I heard her door shut behind her smiling at the fact that she hadn't moved the bells hanging from it we added when we were 9 to warn us of any monsters trying to attack us, which most of the time was her dad or brother trying to scare us.
"I have no clue as to where and my mom's getting married," I said closing my eyes.
"She's what?" she practically screamed and I could imagine her bugged out eyes in my head.
"Getting married," I said again sitting up.
"Is that even legal?" she asked.
"I guess, she just informed me that indeed they are divorced so I'm guessing she can do whatever she likes from now on," I shrugged so frustrated with this whole situation.
"Oh, that's new, so what are you going to do?" she asked kindly.
"I don't even know, can I move in with you?" I asked jokingly.
"Of course if you don't mind my roommates at NYU," she laughed.
"Right I don't think they would like that," I laughed slightly. "Well on the upside in a few years I can be your first client and you can fix me," she laughed with me about this. It's always been her dream to become a psychologist.
"I'll give the friends and family discount," she said and we finished laughing.
"You better," I smiled.
"How 'bout this I'll be your psychologist and you can be my personal chef work for you?" she asked and I could tell she was smiling on her end of the conversation.
"Sounds like an amazing plan," I smiled as well before things got quiet.
"So do you have any idea where you are moving too?" she asked making me close my eyes.
"No idea, I'll have to ask and text it to you later," I fell back down onto my bed looking up at the fan blades move slowly.
"Sounds good, I wish I could help you Hun," she said sounding helpless.
"Don't worry you are just by listening to me rant," I laughed slightly.
"Good glad I could help at least some," she laughed as well.
"Yea well I better get going if I'm going to get packing for next week," I said getting up and walking towards my closet.
"Next week, girl you are going to need a lot of re-enforcement with all the stuff you have," she said laughing at me.
"Hey I don't have that much stuff," I rebutted. "Okay maybe I do," I laughed as I looked into my closet that was over flowing with clothes and other items.
"Maybe?" she questioned still laughing.
"Oh sush," I said trying to hold in my laughter. "I better get going I'll text you later," I said having to get down to business.
"Okay if you need me just call," she said softly as the bells rang again.
"I will, bye," I said before hanging up and started to pull out everything to go through it.
