'I wanna hide the truth, I wanna shelter you

But with the beast inside, There's nowhere we can hide'

Luke's p.o.v

Returning to the back of the library where i was sat yesterday, i pulled out my phone and stuck my headphones in my ears, playing any random song that came on shuffle. I wanna hide the truth about my life, that's why i come here, to clear my head i guess.

Though i may not seem like it i actually like hanging out here, it's my getaway, plus i was kinda hoping to meet up with Genna again, though i'm not even sure why.

About half an hour passed when i noticed her walking towards the large table that i was seated at, her hair thrown over her face, i could barely tell if it was her but the black and blue backpack with the one small keyring of a rainbow hung on the end that gave her away.

I'm guessing she didn't notice me as she sat down on the far end, pulling out a book and sinking her head into it. I pulled my headphones out and paused the music, standing up off my chair and creeping over to hers. I figured the element of surprise wouldn't be too bad, that was until i got close enough to hear her crying.

"Are you alright?" I said, not realising that it was bound to scare her. She jumped in her chair and dropped the book flat out on the table. Her eyes met mine and were all red and puffy.

"I'm fine." She sniffed, picking up the book and literally sinking her head into it.

"You don't look fine." I mumbled, pulling up a chair next to her and slowly pulling the book away.

"Look i'm fine leave me alone." She hissed, trying to snatch the book back which i refused to give her.

"What's that?" I asked, noticing the purple and green bruise on her wrist.

"Nothing." He whispered, pulling her sleeve over her arm.

"It does't look like nothing."

"GO AWAY!" She yelled, catching the attention of Sylvia the librarian. She grabbed her bag and took of running towards the exit. I chased after her, running out of the library into the open evening air where the rain began falling and was starting to pick up it's pace.

She stopped at an empty bus stop across the street, wrapping her arms around her body. I slowly walked over and she stared up at me with sorrow in her eyes, her tears elegantly falling.

The silence took over us, the only audible sounds coming from the rain and the few cars that passed.

"What do you want Luke?" She sobbed, her eyes expressing how tired she seemed.

"I just....i wanted to see if you were okay?" I said and she shook her head wiping her tears away.

A bus pulled up at the station and i expected her to get on and leave, instead she just watched it go by.

"You didn't get on the bus?"

"I don't have my bus pass. My house is just a few streets away." She shrugged, adjusting her backpack before taking off without saying another word.

Her sudden behaviour change startled me, she seemed nothing like the girl i met yesterday. She didn't bother to run or get some sort of protection from the pouring rain, if anything i would say she was deliberately walking slowly.

Sighing and realising that it wasn't exactly safe for a school girl alone in the pouring rain and the now occurring darkness to walk home alone i jogged up to her, calling for her to wait which she didn't.

I took off my leather jacket and awkwardly wrapped it around her and her backpack. She stumbled back and pulled it off her, throwing it back at me.

"What are you doing?" She yelled, her breathing increasing.

"I just....i wanna shelter you from the rain." I put my arms up defensively. She shook her head and continued walking. I still followed but she didn't protest. We ended up walking quite a distance and a few times she shuffled closer to me when we passed certain people walking by us.

She stopped outside a cream house with a brown wooden door. She turned to me and sighed.

"This is me." She faked a smile.

I nodded and brought up the courage to ask her what happened to her arm.

"Nothing." She mumbled. "I have to go."

"What are you hiding?" I grabbed her arm and she winced, i retracted my arm and apologised.

"Hiding? With the beast inside there's nothing i can hide." She half yelled pointing to the door with tears sparking in her eyes all over again.

"Why would i hide anything Luke? Every time i try to hide he finds me and he gets mad, he always gets mad." She said, shaking her head at herself. It seemed as though she was talking to herself instead of me.

"What are you talking about, what...does your dad hit you or something? Does he hit you and your sisters?"

She scoffed and shook her head. "As if he would ever hit them, they're too precious."

"You need to tell someo-"

"I have to go." She turned around and headed up to the door.

"Genna." I walked up to her

"Luke please just go." She begged, pushing my chest.

"You'll get me into trouble." She sniffed.

She walked to the door and took her keys out, unlocking it and stepping inside, the water droplets from her hair tapping against the wooden floor of her home.

"Thanks for walking me." She smiled weakly and closed the door before i could protest.

Right then and there, I don't know if i should or shouldn't have...

.....But i walked away.
