Chapter Eight

Seeing an ambulance pulling up, I mentally thanked Lee, knowing he was the one who

had notified them. One of the paramedics came running over to me, he tried taking Sheena from me, but I couldn’t let her go. I didn’t want anyone touching her, I felt a hand squeezing my shoulder, and I spun round only to see Lee standing there. The sad expression on his face made me breakdown. “Damon please, they need to help her” Lee pleaded, while looking down at Sheena’s limp body.

Taking a glimpse at the paramedic, and then back at Lee I nodded my head. I placed her body gently onto the gurney, where the paramedics went straight to work, I watched as they shoved needles into her, and placed a breathing mask over her mouth. I heard a high pitched scream and Cherelle running over towards us. I heard Lee saying “I thought I told you to stay in the car”. But she totally ignored him and ran straight over to Sheena. Then she turned to face me. ”What happened? What have they done to her?” she asked, while hitting me on my chest in between sobs. I could hear her, but my body and brain just wouldn’t respond. As I continued to stare at Sheena’s lifeless body and the paramedics. I felt dizzy as I watched everything that was going on in slow motion, as I welcomed the blackness.

Waking up to a loud beeping sound I jumped up startled. “Where is she” I scream out in panic. But no one was here, realising I was in hospital, I ripped the needle out of my arm and went looking for Sheena. As I was running down the corridor towards the nurse’s station I bumped into someone, I shouted sorry over my shoulder as I continued to run.  But whoever I bumped into grabbed hold of my arm, stopping me from running. “Let go of me now” I shouted, as I tried to break free from the deadly grip I was held in. “Damon,” that stopped me as the tears released.

I looked up to meet Lee’s stare, he was looking at me with so much worry. ”where is she?” I asked standing there nervously. “Come on I’ll take you” he said as he walked off with me following. We were now standing outside the intensive care unit, where I could see Cherelle asleep on a chair. The palms of my hands were sweaty and my heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to leap out of my chest. “Damon, are you alright?” Lee asked, “I will be as soon as I see Sheena” I replied in a whispered, but I knew he heard me, as he started to lead me towards her room. As we arrived outside her door I hovered my hand just above the handle, as I started feeling scared and nervous at the thought seeing her. I didn’t know what to expect when I opened the door, as no one had told me how bad she was. As I couldn’t remember much from when I found her only her beautiful face, However, I knew she was alive and right now and that is all that mattered to me!  As everything else we will take a step at a time. I thought to myself.

 After finally building up enough courage I began turning the handle but before pushing it opened Lee stopped me. “Do you want me to come in with you” he asked concerned. I thought about it before I answered him. “I will be ok, but thanks Lee” I replied before pushing the door opened.

My heart broke as I seen her lying there with heart monitors and other machines all wired up to her. Sitting on the edge of the bed I stroked the few stray hairs behind her ears, before placing a kiss on her forehead. I took hold of her hand in mine,”Sheena I am so sorry I didn’t get to you in time, I am so sorry I left you in the train station. I’m so sorry” I said as the tears started to stream down my face. I don’t know how long I sat there, holding her hand and just looking at her. I had so many different emotions running through me right now, but there was only one that really stood out to me, and that was my feelings for her.
