Chapter Thirteen

I was placed into a cell where they just left me, locking the large metal door behind them. Not knowing why they had just put me in here, not only confused me, but also angered me. Everything that had just happened was like a blur, I tried to work out what had just happened to me, but all I could see was the paleness of Damon’s face, and how he would not look at me or even answer me.  Looking around the small room there was a small made up bed on one side and a toilet in the corner. Thinking of all that had happened to me in my life and how scared I was was nothing towards the way I was feeling right now.

A little while later, I heard the door to my cell opening, and standing at the doorway was an officer.” Miss Long, we are ready to interview you now,” he told me, as he made a motion for me to go over to him.

This was worse than any nightmare, I thought to myself, as I walked over to the officer. He put the hand cuffs back on me and then took hold of my elbow and lead me down a long dingy corridor. We came to a stop in front of a big metal gateway that had officers standing on either side. One of them pressed a buzzer, which then opened the large metal gate. I watched in slow motion as the officer holding onto me started to lead us through. I couldn’t stop my body from shaking as the fear of being locked up in here like a criminal was killing me. I just wanted to close my eyes and wake up to all of this, just being a bad nightmare. However, hearing a loud buzzer go off, I knew that was not going to happen.

The officer, then lead me into a room that looked like the ones you would see on TV. There was a table placed in the centre of the room with a chair placed on either side. In addition, along one side of the room was a large tinted window. It was as if you could feel someone starring right through it at you. The officer then instructed me to sit down, but before I sat down the officer took my handcuffs off.

I was sitting there for a while before a man in a suit walked into the room and took a seat opposite me. Sitting there with my head hung down, as I tried to stop myself from shaking. I tried to listen to what the man in front of me was saying, but everything in the room was spinning so fast around me, making it impossible for me to concentrate. His voice sounded so muffled that I could not make out a word of what he was saying. “Miss Long, this is the last time I am going to ask you, how do you plead?” he asked with his voice raised. Feeling petrified, I asked, “what have I done?”  I asked, while raising my head up so I could look at the man in front of me. “The charge against you is murder. “  I blanked right then. It felt like I had been punched hard straight into the chest, as all the air in my lungs left my body. “m-mur-murder?” I managed to ask as my heart pondered hard in my chest. “Yes Miss Long, The murder of your mother and brother, other wise known as Alice and Robert Long.” I looked at the man in front of me stunned. “WHAT!” I screamed out. All my fear was being replaced with pure anger.  “Miss Long please calm down,” he ordered me. I could not believe that not only was he telling me to calm down, but also the thing I have been dreading hearing most of my life, he was telling me. Moreover, on top of all that he was accusing me of murdering the family who had just left me.
