Jace always ate his lunches in his office, so Katherine knew she’d find him there. She walked inside the large building that belonged to the advertising company. Although she was feeling tired, she ignored her body’s pleas to take a rest. And she couldn’t even if she wanted to, she had to go and tell her husband the good news right away. Her heart bounced with every breath she took, a new life was growing inside of her. Before she entered the elevators before signing in with the security guards at checkpoint, she answered her cell phone when it rang.

“Is everything okay?” it was Peter, so like him to cut straight to it without the formalities. It caused Katherine to giggle.

“Okay, when I was told you left for the hospital, the last I expected from you was to giggle. Kathy-Ann, what the hell? Were just skipping work?” not that it helped with the mirth bubbling in stomach, but Katherine had to released herself by laughing even more. Some people in the large building gave her strange glances, but nothing lingering.

“Kathy-Ann,” Peter said sternly.

“Peter, I’m pregnant,” she blurted, still giggling like a school girl. The elevator opened and men and women in suits bustled as Katherine waited for the elevator to empty before getting in herself. She punched the numbers of the floor in which Jace was on and waited till, she got there. Peter was still on the phone.

“I’m Jace’s building and I’m going to personally deliver the news myself. Oh God, Peter, we’re having a baby!” she hadn’t realized that since Announcing the news, Peter hadn’t said a word. The elevator doors opened and Katharine made her way out.

“Peter, can you believe it? You’re going to be an uncle.”

“Yeah, wow. Congratulations, I’m happy for you Kathy-Ann,” Peter said after some silence. Katherine stopped in her tracks and frowned at Peter’s reply.

“You don’t sound too happy,” she said. She could see him in her mind’s eye him shrugging.

“Hey, I’m happy, trust me. It’s just that, once you have this baby, you’ll be too preoccupied with and I won’t have anyone to play around with anymore. You’re going to leave me Kathy-Ann,” Peter said, faking a sad voice. Katherine laughed and waved her hand in the air dismissively when she resumed her strides to Jace’s office.

“That’s true, Peter, I can’t argue with you there. You’re going to have to find a new playmate,” she replied. However, the moment she was six feet from Jace’s office, she sensed that something was wrong. She could feel it in her gut. The fact the desks were almost empty didn’t help matters.

“That will never happen, Kathy-Ann,” Peter chuckled, and Katherine realized that she had been on the phone with him.

“Look Peter, I’ll call you back, okay?” she dropped the phone before Peter could reply. She got closer to Jace’s office, she saw Jace’s secretary gone. And her heart fell into an abyss when she heard a woman calling out her husband’s name. Katherine’s breathing became shallower as the woman’s voice rang over and over saying the same thing.

“Oh, Jace. Jace, yes…Jace,” she moaned. Katherine briskly swung the door opened and the sounds were clear to hear. The woman sounded disgusting, shouting like she wasn’t in a place of work.

“Oh, Jace,” she continued. Katherine could see that they were behind Jace’s desk, and at the sight of them, she wanted to vomit.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!” Katherine shouted. At the shriek of her voice, the woman quieted and Jace emerged from behind his desk. Upon seeing his chest bare, that’s Katherine noticed all the shriveled clothing discarded on his floor. When she looked up at her husband’s face, and saw shame and surprised at being caught, she thought she was going to die. The woman screaming her husband’s name emerged as well, and Katherine’s heart broke at seeing the long-legged blonde, covering her body with—none other than her Jace’s suit jacket.
