"I swear to god, If this day get's any worse I think I'm going to scream." Sarah huffed as soon as she walked through the door.
Jessica looked up from her book to glance at the clock. 10:25 PM.
"Well, it's a good thing there isn't much of it left." She smiled at her wife.
"You know, as much as I love Ryan, I fucking hate it when he throws shit at me last minute."
"Why don't you tell him it's too much?"
Jessica scooted enough for her partner to sit down.
"It's really not that much, to be honest. I've just been so exhausted lately from taking care of Jessie that it seem like it." Sarah paused, wrapping her arms around Jessica,"Speaking of Jessie, how was she today?"
"Better. She was finally able to keep her medicine down today."
"Well that's good."
"On the other hand, she did mess in about 3 pairs of pj's..."
"Oh fuck." Sarah groaned,"Please tell me it was just pee."
Jessica stayed silent.
"You're joking?"
"Nope." Jessica sighed.
Sarah buried her head into the blonde's side.
"Shit, Jess, I'm sorry."
"Oh, honey it's alright. It's not like I haven't dealt with sick kids before." Jessica smiled again,"At least it wasn't three this time."
Sarah couldn't help but laugh at that, she really didn't want to imagine what that must have been like.
Sarah sat back for a moment to look at her wife. She had to admit that Jessica not only looked happier, but acted happier too. It was almost as if Jessie came in and lifted some kind of weight off the older woman's shoulders. The two of them were almost inseparable. She loved that her Mem would make up stories and act out her spontaneous whenever she wanted. Of course, Jessie was over the moon when she had her very own photo shoot, which Sarah always ended up getting dragged into so Mem could take some pictures with her.
"Thank you." Sarah said suddenly.
"For what?" Jessica cocked her head to the side.
"For being the best wife, the best mother, the best friend, the best you."
Jessica grinned as she reached down to kiss her.
"You don't ever have to thank me for being who I am."
"Oh but I do. I know I would have lost my mind these past few days without you."
"Well, aren't you glad I was here to save the day?"
"Always."
The two went to go for another kiss when a few small sniffles made themselves heard from the door way.
"Mem?"
"Oh honey, what's wrong?" The blonde asked, getting up from her spot.
"I had a bad dream." Jessie tuck her head into Jessica's neck as she picked her up.
"Oh, my poor baby." Sarah frowned.
"Mommy, I don't like bad dreams."
"No one does, honey." Jessica cooed,"I'm sorry you had one."
"Was it scary?" Sarah asked.
Jessie nodded.
"Was it too scary to tell us?"
The toddler shook her head, but offered nothing more.
"You can tell us."
Again she shook her head.
"Why not?" Sarah asked.
"Cuz." Jessie sniffled.
"Cuz why?"
"Cuz I don't want you to be mad."
Jessica's brow furrowed together.
"Why would we be mad?"
"Cuz, you're gonna be mad."
Sarah snorted.
"Honey, you don't know that unless you tell us."
Again, Jessie stayed silent.
"Was it a bad dream about Mommy and I?" Jessica asked quietly.
"Uh-huh."
"What about us?" Sarah pushed.
"Mem..."The little girl started to tear up.
"It was about Mem?"
Jessie nodded.
"What about Mem?"
The little blonde looked up at her older mother before continuing.
"You and Mem got into a fight and she..she..she left!" The damn broke on her tears as she wrapped her arms around Jessica's neck.
Both women froze. That was not at all what they had expected and the breakdown was even more heart wrenching then either of them thought possible.
"I'M SORRY!" Jessie wailed at the top of her lungs,"I'M SORRY MEM. I DIDN'T WANNA MAKE YOU MAD. DON'T BE MAD. I'M SORRY."
"Oh, honey, Mem isn't mad. Not at all." Jessica said quickly, trying to calm the toddler in her arms.
"I'M SORRY. MOMMY, I DIDN'T MEAN TO MAKE MEM MAD."
"Baby, you didn't make anyone mad. You surprised her, that's all."
Jessica kissed the crying girl temple and began to sing to her, hoping to calm her down. 10 minutes later, the wailing went down to a slight sniffle. The older woman hoped her daughter could keep it together long enough to talk to her.
"Jessie, listen to Mem."Jessica rubbed her back,"I'm not going anywhere. No amount of fighting can make me leave you and Mommy. So don't you worry you're pretty little head about that."
"Promise?"Jessie mumbled.
"I promise." Jessica looked over at her wife,"Mommy, do you promise that you won't leave either?"
"Of course, I promise I'm staying right here."
