It's been a full week since another almost dead man has risen from slumber. I was left that day alone by my two doctor friends who ran out to accompany the nurse. When they returned the next day all my questions about the patient were dodged, they claimed it they were not allowed to disclose any information. I understand that yet I itch to know more about someone like me.
"Yoongi?"
I look up to find Jin, a small smile on his face. "There's someone who really wants to see you."
He returns back to behind the wall to fetch whoever it was I assumed but I could only hear a single set of footsteps. A few seconds later I come to understand why, the person who wished to see me was not someone who could walk. A pale, skinny man with brown hair was pushed inside in a wheel chair. Without a doubt I knew this was who had just awakened. I also know something is off about him, a color.
We stare at each other, searching for something. A minute passes until we speak.
"Agust."
"Jooheon."
At the word I am left speechless and my mind goes blank. I can think of nothing for memories begin flashing in.
"Red's cool right? I won't look like a traffic light?"
I stare down at he containers in my hand. Either red for me or green and I don't want red so I lie.
"Hell yeah!"
"Agust!" He screams out now and urges Jin to push him closer just as I swing my legs over the bed. With my legs much stronger I can now stand but not walk for too long but they last enough for me to get closer to him. He breathes heavily and tears well at his eyes as they do in mine. An sudden feeling in my chest becomes overwhelming as I stare at him, something I could not explain.
"Red! You're missing you're red hair!" I point to the mop of brown on his head. He looks surprised for a second then the next he goes blank. We let him be while Jin helps me into my wheelchair but after sometime I wave my hand in front of his face, about a minute later he responds.
"So that's what looks weird!"
He throws his head back and laughs happily before he goes into a coughing fit. Jin is there to quickly attend him but he holds up an arm to assure him he's just fine. He clears his throat when it's over and smiles.
"I'm not use to doing much with this body that's all."
"This body? You mean your only body?" I question him. His smile drops and he tilts his head, his eyes squinted. Eyesight drops to the floor and he pushes out his lips as if his thinking a life threatening decision. I look to Jin but he doesn't says anything, just stays quiet, waiting for Jooheon to react.
"You're right!" He perks up all the sudden with a smile. "Silly me! My brain still isn't working right?"
We laughed off his mistake. Jooheon spends the rest of the day in my room just talking. I had yet to recall memories with him so I tell him the ones I've recalled from my live. Those are helpful for he too remembered some and so he now appearance in those memories in my head. in. What I do now know is that I had friends outside of the hospital despite Hoseok claiming me as unfriendly and unsocial. Jooheon was not bubbly like him, he was a bit more like me.
"So I was wondering." He moves he head back to look to the door. "When you woke up, did you feel like you didn't need to..."
"Breath." I finish the sentence for him. His facial expression goes blank before he leans forward slightly.
"I felt it too."
I roll my wheel chair to the door to find no one near it. If Jooheon had waited for Jin to finally leave, I was sure this was not something we should be letting others hear. Once I see the coast is clear, Jooheon sighs.
"I thought I was crazy when the doctors told me what I tried to do. It just felt weird!" He exclaims in a whisper. "It's as-"
"We didn't need to."
"Exactly!"
It stays silent between us for some time. I take the moments to reminisces, to assure myself it was not just my imagination playing a cruel trick on my body. I had not thought about that since the day it happened until now but never did it leave the back of my mind.
What kind of person believes they don't need to breath?
"Hyung." The song-like voice of my brother echoes through the room for a few seconds before he enters. I give him my back so I can't see his face but I don't need to, I am sure he was surprised from the broken phrases that left his mouth.
"Heon Hyung! You're alive!" He screams before rushing to my friend and engulfing him a tight hug. Jooheon still being quite weak attempts to hug back but he can't, his face is as confused as ever. When Jihoon pulls away he forces a smile but my brother isn't dumb, not so dumb to not notice at least.
"Oh you probably don't remember but I'm Yoongi Hyung's brother." He points to me. "I use to open the door for you when Hyung would not want to."
Of course neither of us recall that so he sighs. He pushes Jooheon in front of the bed and I follow next to him. He sits at the edge of the bed. This position that he takes has become quite familiar to me, it was story time. Before Jihoon can start I inform Jooheon just what's about to happen.
"Alright so..."
Jihoon explains to us as much as he can in the time he's there. Jooheon and I are childhood friends. Together we've been since the very first grade, he pulled my hair and that was how the friendship started. I was a scrawny outcast to which the younger version of Jooheon found odd and so he decided to talk to me however I was not interested. Supposedly I ignored him until he felt he had no choice but to pull my hair, only then did I bother to take interest. To prevent him from doing it again I began answering all his questions, that's how we lasted till adult hood.
"You guys were such troublemakers." Jihoon exhaled dramatically. "If it weren't for Mark Hyung, you're records would be full but that's a story for next time."
He stands up and stretches his short limbs. To the wall he points and I turn to follow it. The clock marked the time for him to leave and so he walks out into the hallway for a nurse. Alongside with my brother, she helps me back up to the bed.
"So I'll see you tomorrow Agust?" Jooheon grins.
"Yes you will Heon."
I can't help the smile crosses my face and it appeared neither could he stop his from growing. We bid each other farewell and so I was left with mybrother alone. He was still staring at the door curiously even a minute after Jooheon had left.
"Jihoon don't you have to go?"
Jihoon finally turns to face me, his eyebrows furrowed in cushion. "What did he call you?"
"Agust." I say blankly. I didn't think much of the name, it suited me and so I believe it be my nickname for him. "Why?"
My brother looks down, he becomes distant. It was clear he was thinking deeply about something he wouldn't dare share despite the times I asked him to. He bid me a goodnight but before he could disappear from my site he stops.
"Don't let anyone hear him call you that. As a matter of fact, don't even let him call you that."
Then he leaves.
