"The doctors are as mad as the patients."
I didn't get it. Why would Benny say such thing? Why would Jimin say there were only half true? Why should I take interest in the doctors? Maybe because they treated the stranger I went to visit? Perhaps that the reason I was warned?
I didn't quite understand the reasoning for being told such thing until I was beyond the wall that separated me from the sick. Benny refused to explain to me the rumors, he just made me feel guilt for assigning Jooheon to do something I should have instead. I don't regret it though, my friend would have had us in another town if I gave him my job. Regardless I begged Benny to tell me but he said Jimin could do that instead. He asked me to send his and his wife's regard to the 'sweetheart' as he called Jimin and kicked me out. The car drove off, promising to return soon. I was left to enter with head full of many more questions.
Once past the gates I walked down the long dirty walls that led me straight to the entrance. It was sunnier today than yesterday, one would expect that to make the place glow a bit but it just made it seem duller ironically. I entered the door and walked up the face of the women with a scary voice.
"You again." She growled.
"Hello." I smiled at her. "I'm here to see Jimin again."
She scoffed. "Run boy, run."
I pretended not to hear her but when I asked her to repeat herself she shook her head. She reached for something on her desk and led the way. I expected to be taken down the same path that was to the room where Jimin was kept but it was not there she took me. We entered through a door she unlocked which took us to a hallway with many other walls. It was then that I saw other staffs and patients for the first time.
Sitting in a wheel chair, a women in about her sixties was smiling at a dead roach on the ground. The nurse that stood beside her played with her nails as the woman asked her for her opinion on the dead bug. When she caught sight of me she was taken back but not before I could escape her did she not react.
"Handsome man what do you think of our dead friend?"
I stopped in my steps and stared down at the flipped roach. In reality I found it disgusting but I didn't feel that was the proper response so I told her it brought me no thought.
"Well that's okay. I'll him soon anyway."
I smiled at her before excusing myself and catching back up the women who called me an idiot upon retrieving to her side. She said I shouldn't have returned just as we reached two large push doors. We went through them and were taken to the yard. All the patients resided outside. This was what was on the left side of dirty wall.
"Jimin should be near the back." She said as she pointed to where a dying tree resided. As we walked there I glanced at those we passed.
Some of the patients were astonished to see a new face while others seemed to have no reaction. I expected most to be old, like elderly but that wasn't the case. The youngest face I caught sight of was a girl, perhaps only twenty years of age. We stopped just near her.
"Where is he?" The woman said as she looked down to the clock on her wrist.
It took only a minute of standing there for me to understand it all.
A hand was rested on the shoulder of the young girl which I stared at. The hand belonged to a male of my height with blonde hair. He wears a long white coat. I get it now.
"You've got a visitor again."
Jimin looks away from the patient to meet my eye, he smiles. He whispers to the girl, pats her shoulder then approaches us. "Thank you for bringing him this far, I'll take it from here."
The woman groans and leaves.
"Is that for me?"
For a second I am confused but when I see what he looks at I sheepishly hand it over with a muttered yes. I let him know that it's from Benny and his wife, also that they send their regards. He thanks me then offers to find us somewhere to sit, a place where all eyes will not be on us. Under the dying tree we sit down.
"I'm glad you came back. I've missed you."
"I was here yesterday."
Jimin shrugs. "Does that mean I can't have missed you? Don't be dumb Yoongi."
We chit chat about random things like what I had for breakfast until finally I can no longer hold the obvious in. I ask him why he's dressed like a doctor, I believed him to have been a patient. He smiled at me, called me a dummy, then confirmed that he was in fact a doctor here.
"That's why you told me about the rumors?" I ask stupidly.
He nods. "I just thought I should have reminded you."
"Okay...since you're reminding things, why don't you remind me how we met or why I found your name with the number to this place hidden in my apartment?"
Jimin exhales deeply, he puckers out his lips but agrees redundantly. I came for answers not to banter with a stranger on things I can't remember about.
"I left that there for you so you would come back to me, and you did. I figured you'd find it eventually when you awoken and I'm so glad I did. It took you quite a while though, about a year."
A year? I don't believe I told him about my coma nor the fact that I've been awake for a year. I ask him just how he knows that when I never spoke it. Jimin is s mysterious boy, his little grin just makes me think so even more. He leans in with a playful expression spread on his face.
"Because I awoke with you."
