Jen was heading to school by walking because her mom was out on a business trip for two days. Ever since her mom got a new job plus a promotion she has been left home alone for most of her time. Ever since Pat left to California, Jen separated from her friends and wouldn't talk to anybody else during school. Since she was in high school now, she thought she made a mistake with not having friends because sometimes older students would pick on her. She got so sick of it that one day she skipped school while her mom was on one of her trips. That ended up going on her permanent record and most students knew her for this because the day she skipped school was during the first week of her freshman year. Most students would break rules around the fourth week of school but she got in trouble the very first week. The students who knew her since like first grade told other students that she changed a lot. Saying that she used to be the most energetic and sweetest person ever. Whenever Jen would hear people say this she would go to the restroom to look at herself in the mirror. Jen knew that she changed and she knew the exact reason why but she didn't want to share it with anyone.
One day while in PE lots of people were gathering around some new student but Jen didn't care at all. She knew if that was Pat she would've heard about it days before. While everyone was talking to the new guy some other guy came up to her. She knew that is was one of the older students who bothered her. He was a junior and she was a freshman and that made her uncomfortable.
Jen: What do you want Jack...
Jack: Aw come on Jen you've been looking sad ever since you came to this school...you even got punished your very first week...I like that in a girl
Jen: Listen I'm not in the mood to be annoyed by you so can you please just leave
Jack: Kinda hard considering we have the same PE class...
Jen: Jack...just leave me alone
Jack: Why should I eh...
Jen: JACK I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU DON'T LEAVE I WILL-
Before Jen could finish she noticed all of her classmates were staring at her. She then noticed the new guy looking at her with a shocked face and with tears in his eyes. Jen then realized who that was and ran straight to him. Everybody looked confused when Jen and the guy hugged.
Jen: You finally came...after three years...you finally came
Pat: I said I would didn't I
Jen: Why didn't I hear about this sooner...
Pat: I wanted it to be a surprised...
Jen: Well you surely did surprised me
Some guy: I remember now! Pat and Jen used to be great friends back in elementary and middle school!
Everybody in the crowd of students were muttering to each other and then looked at Pat and Jen. They were still hugging until they backed away from each other a bit to look at one another.
Jack: Well well well if it isn't Popular Pat
Pat: Jack...nice to see you...
Jack: Oh please don't act as if you don't know me...we used to be best friends until you decided to move away...
Pat: It wasn't my choice...
Jack: I was waiting for you but as soon as sophomore year started I just thought "Well darn Pat betrayed his friends to go to God knows where"
Pat: We can start over...
Jack: No no it's cool I mean you left me alone for what three years! I was lucky enough to find friends Pat...but then Jen finally came to this school for freshman year and I remembered how close you two were so I just thought if I befriended her maybe I can find out why you left...
*bell rings*
Jen: Pat...let's go...he's nothing but trouble...
Pat and Jen turned to go to the cafeteria. Jen said that she would save a table for them and went to go look for one. When Pat got his lunch he noticed that Jen didn't get up to get any.
Pat: Hey why aren't you eating...
Jen: Don't have money and not hungry...
Pat: If you want I can give you some of my money...
Jen: It's fine really I don't eat here...
Pat: Are we not allowed to go outside during lunch...
Jen: We are...I go outside but we can't take food so we have to stay here...
Pat: Jen...what happened...
Jen: What do you mean...
Pat: Your look...your personality...what happened...
Jen: *looks down* what do you think happened...
Pat: Jen if you changed because of me...then can you change for me...
Jen: ...
Pat: Here *moves tray towards Jen*
Jen: You don't have to you know...
Pat: Be honest...have you eaten much since I left...and be honest I know when you are lying
Jen: Well...you see...I mean my mom isn't really home much anymore due to her new job so almost everyday since you left I've only been eating supper meals at home...no breakfast or lunch...
Pat: *grabs sandwich and takes a piece* open your mouth...
Jen: Pat...we're in the cafeteria...not here...
But as soon as she was about to finish her sentence Pat put the sandwich piece into her mouth.
Jen: *muffled voice* PAT!
Pat: *starts laughing*
Jen: .....*starts laughing*
