Since Jen was only a freshman and Pat was a junior they didn't have classes together, apart from PE, which made them disappointed. After school Jen got a call from her mom.
Jen: Hello?
Jen's Mom: Sweetie it's me the flight back home has been put on hold due to a storm coming. The weather news said that it might be a strong storm so please stay inside and stay safe I'll be home soon. Bye Jen I love you
Jen: Love you too Mom. Bye
Jen had to get home quick because she realized that the storm was coming already heading toward the town. She quickly started speed walking to her home and while she was on her way she spotted Pat sitting on a bus stop.
Jen: Pat...what are you doing here?
Pat: Well you see my mom was going to pick me up after work but she got stuck in traffic so now I'm just waiting
Jen: Wait isn't your old house close to mine...I can take you there...you're still living in that house right?
Pat: *nodded yes*
Jen: Good come on I'll show you the way
Pat: Thanks
Since Jen's house was closer to the school they decided to head there.
Pat: Where's your mom?
Jen: I told you she went on a business trip. She just called and said that the flight is delayed because of the storm
Pat: So you just stay home alone until she gets back?
Jen: *nods yes slowly*
Pat: *grabs his phone* I'm telling my mom if I can stay over
Jen: Pat you don't have to you know. I'm used to being home alone
Pat: Nonsense besides we need some catching up to do
Jen: Fine
Pat: *looks at his phone* She said yes
Jen: Cool
Even though Jen sounded like she didn't care much she really did and was happy to have Pat back in her life. They decided to watch some movies in the living room while it rained. When the tv turned to one of those warning things talking about a flash flood Pat started shaking a lot. I knew something was wrong because Pat wasn't one to get scared very easily.
Jen: Pat...what's wrong?
Pat: N-nothing's w-wrong...
Jen: You can tell me...
Pat: Well you see when we arrived to California my dad wanted to introduce us to some friends of his. It was long drive considering it was from San Francisco to a city called Watsonville but when we got there it was during rain season. Apparently Watsonville was known for a lot of floods around that area. Well while my dad and I were heading to his friend's house we saw a flooding coming towards us. We ran and my dad pushed me forward that way I was ahead of him and when I got to his friend's house I looked behind me to see my dad catching up. But as soon as he was close to the house he got struck by lightning and was taken away by the huge flood. I'll never forget that day...
Jen: Pat...I'm so sorry...
Jen leaned in to hug Pat and she noticed him crying. She hugged him so tight and he hugged back.
Pat: Thanks Jen
Jen: For what?
Pat: For being there for me...
The rest of the day Pat and Jen just watched some movies and they both went into Jen's room for the night.
Pat: Are you sure I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable
Jen: It's fine I mean we've done this before
Pat: Yeah but we were very young
Jen: I don't care. You're shaking right now so I just want you to feel safe
Pat: Thanks Jen...
He hugged her and she hugged back. After that they fell asleep on her bed peacefully.
