Ch 3 ~ Chocolates
———————————————————————————
Life isn't fair. Or easy for that matter. It never was, never is and it never will be. And if you're me, then you have to get up every morning and drag yourself through the day wishing that nothing would change in your daily routine so that you don't have to face problems.
But that's one wish, which never gets fulfilled.
I get up at seven in the morning, which is pretty early for a Sunday , and go for a walk in the nearby park. This is how I usually start my Sunday, with a morning walk, to clear my head and to breathe in the fresh air to give a good start to my week. I love Sundays. Why? Because they are Sundays and who doesn't love a Sunday. It's a much needed break I crave every week. Apart from the fact that the day that follows is the day I hate.
When I reach home an hour later, mom is in the kitchen , cooking breakfast and dad is reading the newspaper.
"Good morning Jess." My father says, his nose buried in the newspaper. I go and sit down beside him on the couch with a bottle of water in hand. "How was your walk?"
"Good." I reply after taking a sip of water. "Are we still doing the barbecue today evening?"
"Why not?" He asks me with a smile. It's something we do every other Sunday so that we can spend time together as a family and catch up with each other.
"Okay. I'll just go take a bath and then have breakfast." I say to my mom and head to my room.
"I'm making pancakes." Comes her voice from the kitchen.
I take a quick shower, wash my hair and then get dressed in shorts and a light pink coloured loose tank top paired with black sandals with pink straps. After I pull up my hair into a loose bun I go to the kitchen and take out the pancakes from the microwave, drown them in chocolate syrup and start eating them. How much I love pancakes. And chocolate. I eat so much chocolate that my mom says I'm going to die of diabetes. And I'm like- I don't care as long as I can eat chocolate .
After I finish the breakfast and keep the plate in the dishwasher , mom comes down the stairs."I'm going to the grocery store. Do you want to come along with me? I might need an extra hand because I've got a long list of things we need to buy."
I think for moment. "Only if you'll let me buy chocolates."
"Okay. But then later on don't say that mom I'm dying because I had so many chocolates and you didn't stop me."
I giggle."Fine mom. Just let me go get my cell phone."
"Okay. I'm waiting in the car."
I hurry up to my room, grab my cell phone from the night stand and go outside. Mom is already waiting in the driveway so I got sit in the car and put on the seatbelt. We sit in silence through the drive to the grocery store. After my mom parks the car in the almost empty parking lot, she hands me a list."Get these things and meet me at the counter." She says as we enter the store."I'm going to get some other things . And yes, remember limited number of chocolates."
I roll my eyes. "Okay." Saying so I start collecting the things on the list. After searching the huge grocery store for almost thirty minutes, I finally gather all the items I need.
Then I head to the section which has all the chocolates.
I look at the vast sea of chocolates, okay not a vast sea. It's like I'm in heaven. I'm always unable to decide which ones to take, because I want them all. And seriously, if I would be given the chance I would definitely buy them all.
"If I were you I'd buy the caramel one." I almost jump out of my skin at his sudden appearance and shriek.
I place a hand on my heart to calm myself. I look at the side and find Noah standing beside me.
"Hi! I'm really sorry if I scared you." He said with a bright smile and scratches his neck. His black hair look slightly wet, like he had just had a shower before coming here. His grey eyes tinkling with happiness. His handsomely shaped jaw.
Okay let's not go there. I don't want to creep him out with my stare.
"Hey Noah. What are you doing here?" I say finally.
He waives the basket he is holding. "Oh we ran out of milk this morning, so I came to grab some. And then I saw you, ogling at the chocolates, so I came over to see you."
I chuckle. I wasn't ogling at the chocolates."
"Yes you were." He had this grin on his face.
"No I wasn't." I cross my arms.
"Yes you were." He laughs lightly.
"Okay fine." I throw my hands in the air."You win. I was ogling at them." He smiles again." What? Why do you keep smiling ?"
"Nothing." He waives his hand in dismissal.
"No. Tell me." I try to persuade him.
"You're looking really pretty today."
I blush. I hope he doesn't notice. "Are you trying to flirt with me?" I say as a comeback.
He rubs his neck." Do you want me to be flirting with you?"
I turn and start picking some chocolates, because I couldn't really get myself to answer that question. Because I'm not sure if I'm over Aaron yet. But then when I do think about it, I might never get over him, even though I want .
But this could be a start. And I've got to start from somewhere. I might like Noah more than I like Aaron, but I'll never know if I keep pushing myself away from every guy that comes into my sight, with the hope that Aaron might start seeing me the way I see him, or that we might become friends again in the future. Although that is most likely never going to happen. But then it just might. But am I ready to loose every other relationship in the hope of reviving an already dead one?
At the end I throw in the one that he had suggested.
I look at Noah."I don't know." I head over to the counters. He follows me. "I'd like to get to know you better before answering that question." I look at him and find him smiling.
"That's good enough for me. So I'll see you tomorrow at school."
"Yeah sure." I smile again. He gets the items in his basket billed and heads out after muttering a bye
I sigh. And just then my mom comes up to the counters and we keep the things on the counter to be billed." So who was that guy?" She asks raising an eyebrow.
"Who?"
"Oh I saw him alright." She smiles.
"That was Noah." I shrug trying to hold back my smile.
"A potential boyfriend?" I smile at her words.
"Maybe. Or maybe just a good friend." I reply as she pays the lady.
She looks at me."I'm happy for you Jess. I mean you've had zero romance in your life since -"
I cut in."I know."
"I'm sorry honey."
"It's okay mom. " she looks at me with the -'seriously' look. "I promise mom." I assure her with a smile and pick up the bags from the counter and we head for our car.
"Okay. If you say so." She adds as we sit in the car.
And all the way home I'm sort of brimmed with anxiety and nervousness because I've not dated in a long time, let alone make new friends.
I need some advice from Nat. Because she is an expert when it comes to these things. And I'm not.
So the first thing that I do when I get home is, I call her.
