I press the blade to my wrist and then...

P.O.V. Marissa

I haven't seen my Dems in two months, and I miss her like crazy. She's been my best friend for years, and more than that—she's family to me. I decide I have to go see her, to make sure she's okay.

An hour later, I'm at her house. I knock twice on the door, and Dallas opens it with a wide smile. She's like a sister to me too.

"Mar!" she says happily. We hug for a moment before I tell her I'm looking for Demi.

"She's in her room, I think. Door's locked... not sure why," Dallas says, walking back to the living room.

Something in my stomach twists. That weird feeling creeps in again.

I try the door. Locked.
"Demi? It's Mar, let me in," I call softly. Silence.
"Demi!" I raise my voice this time. Nothing. Luckily, I have a key.

I open it, and my heart stops. Demi looks fragile, broken... again. I rush to her side.

"Demi... give me your blade, please," I say softly but firmly. She doesn't answer. Gently, I take it from her hand and set it aside. Her shoulders shake as tears stream down her face.

P.O.V. Demi

Why am I so stupid? How could I even think...

Because you're a horrible sister!

Stop. Shut up. You've been five years clean.

You don't deserve it. You should have—

I can't think anymore. The voices, the guilt, the shame—they're all screaming at once. I can't breathe.

Marissa sits with me on the bathroom floor. My head rests on her shoulder. We cry together, silently at first, then her soft voice breaks through.

"Demi?" she asks. I nod.
"Why?" she asks softly.

"I can't... I promised Mayara I wouldn't tell," I whisper.

"It's okay. I won't tell anyone, I promise. I just want to help you."

Tears fall faster. "It's Mayara," I admit, and my sobs take over. Marissa lifts my chin, holding my gaze.

"Don't cry, sweetie. Tell me what happened with May so I can understand."

I tell her everything—about my baby sister, the bullies, her struggles, and my own guilt.
"It's all my fault. If I weren't messed up... if I weren't me... this wouldn't have happened," I say, anger and sadness twisting my words.

"Demi! Stop it! You know better than that," Marissa says firmly.

"Do I, Mar? Do I really?" I ask, voice cracking.

"Yes! Mayara is struggling too, but that isn't your fault. The bullies are to blame. You're not a horrible sister—you've always been there for her, and for everyone. You inspire people. Your past was hard, yes, but that's behind you. You're five years clean. You're strong. You're a warrior. You're loved. I love you, Dems."

Her words break through the chaos in my head. I cry harder than I have in months.

"You're the best friend and sister I could ever wish for. I'll stay strong for all of you. I love you too, Mar. I really needed that," I manage to say through my tears.

P.O.V. Marissa

I hold her tight, my heart aching for her. Watching her cry like this makes me want to take all the pain away. But I can't. I can only promise to be here, every step, every moment.

"We'll get through this together," I whisper. "I promise."

Her tears begin to slow. She looks up at me, eyes red but a little calmer. "I want to be happy again," she says quietly.

"And you will," I reply. "One step at a time, Demi. You're stronger than you think. And you're not alone."

We sit there for a long time, just holding each other, letting the world fade away for a moment. In that silence, I can feel her starting to believe it too—that she's not broken, not worthless, and that she can face tomorrow.
