it was two o' clock, and connor was leading evan to his new apartment. connor had a hand around evan's waist, and evan had a hand around connor's back, due to not being quite tall enough to reach his shoulders.

once in a while, evan would mumble an apology about being too clingy, but connor would kiss the top of his head to shut him up.

suddenly, they stopped in front of a building.

"here we are, darling. your new home," connor said, smiling.

"no w-way. this is the u-upper east s-side!" evan argued.

"my parents wanted to help. you have no idea how much my mom and yours have been talking and hanging out. my parents know how hard it is to grab some good real estate, so my dad pulled some strings..." connor shrugged and smiled. "and here we are."

evan's eyes were wide as he took it in. "wow."

"c'mon. let's go inside."

they went to the third floor of the building and walked into a nice-sized apartment. not too big, but perfect for just evan and his mom.

"evan!" heidi suddenly appeared, smiling brightly and wearing an apron.

"hey, mom," evan smiled a little.

heidi ran over and collected her son in a huge hug. "i'm so glad you're finally home."

"me, too," he replied, hugging back.

connor just sat back and grinned at the family moment.

heidi eventually let go. "oh, yeah, some people are here to see you -"

she was cut off by jared waltzing into the room. "evan! i never thought i'd say this, but it's good to see you," he said, cracking a smile. heidi left the room for the boys to catch up.

connor knew that under jared's facade was a whole bunch of heartbreak and pain that he had decided to keep under wraps forever. he had pretty much given up on love or soulmates in general. connor kept trying to coax him out of that pit, but jared seemed fine just chilling in his own sadness. connor hoped that one day, he would find his person.

evan seemed surprised to see jared there. "j-jared? i thought you-"

"hated you? yeah, i know. but i was a real asshole to you for a while there. and i'm sorry. senior year was a nightmare without you."

evan laughed and ran to jared, hugging him. "yeah, you were. but i still missed you," he mumbled.

connor noticed that jared had a slight blush on his face as he hugged back.

"connor?" zoe walked in, hand-in-hand with alana.

evan pulled back from his hug with jared, looked at zoe and alana, then looked at connor. connor walked over and stood in-between the two parties.

"evan, this is my sister, zoe, and her soulmate, alana. zoe, alana, this is my soulmate, evan."

"n-nice to m-meet you -" evan began, but before he could finish, zoe pounced on evan and wrapped him in a hug.

"it was worth it to find you. thank you, thank you. you saved my brother," she whispered.

evan blushed a little at the sudden contact, but never-the-less, he hugged back. "no. h-he s-saved me. thank you for f-finding me..." he whispered back.

zoe quickly hopped up from the hug, and evan and alana shared a quick handshake. it was easy to detect that alana was mostly business.
