New Orleans
The show started in less than 30 minutes. I was currently sitting backstage with the rest of the horsemen relaxing waiting to go on stage. There was a knock on our green room door, we all look up and see Thaddeus Bradley standing in front of us. The Magic Debunker. We all sighed and and exchanged knowing looks. "Pardon the intrusion. I just wanted to wish you good luck tonight,"
"Of course he's gonna be here. What, so you can try expose us later on your little website?" Jack said rolling his eyes.
"And on demand," Thaddeus added, leaving all of the horsemen very unamused.
"That's not going to happen," Henley said
"Oh no? Operating on a special plane because of the eye? I heard it's a lovely place. Lots of star shine and moonbeams. Makes any magicians wish come true. You've come a long way, much further than anyone would have expected a bunch of wanna-bees and has-beens," Thaddeus continues as we all give eachother bored glances.
"Oh! If by 'has-been' you're referring to me I just want to say I'm flattered because I always considered myself a never-was!" Merritt exclaims as he got up from the couch and stood in front of Thaddeus picking up his jacket. "Do you mind if I do a quick reading on you?"
"By all means," Thaddeus says nodding.
"Uh, okay... I'm picturing a little boy. He wants to be a great magician some day and although he's good, he's not quite good enough. So he ends up on the bottom of the entertainment food chain, feeding off of those who have the talent that he never did. Now tell me, am I getting close?" Merritt asks with a straight face.
Just as Thaddeus was about to leave, Atlas jumps up and starts talking. "Wait, before you go, I'm working on something new, do you have a second?" Everyone else who was sitting down still got up and stood on either side of Atlas as he performed his trick. "Okay name a card,"
"King Of Hearts," Mr Bradley replies.
"Knew it!" Merritt calls out proudly making me stifle a giggle.
"Okay..." Daniel clicked his fingers next to the deck as if something was going to happen then he shook the deck before blowing on it.
"It's up your left sleeve," Thaddeus said plainly before Atlas could do anything.
"Is it?" Atlas asks showing his sleeve to the rest of us, we all shook our heads. "Nope I don't see it there! Hmm... you know what why don't you check your unnecessary velveteen pocket there?" Thaddeus did as Atlas said and pulled out a white card that had two words printed in bold right in the centre - SUCK IT
We all snicker and smirk at each other as we watch for Thaddeus reaction which was once again : bored. Does he have any other facial expressions? "Anyways thanks so much for coming but this kind of a talent only area so..." Atlas kept talking and we all smiled sweetly at the old man."Break a leg," Thaddeus said as he left
"Hey you break something too, buddy!" I call out from behind him.
