- new york, a few hours later -
Atlas throws Dylan Rhodes phone down onto the apartment floor angrily. Everything was getting intense, everyone was frewking out. We were getting so close to one of the most important parts of our plan. No one wanted to get caught, no one wanted anything to go wrong. "The firewalls down!" Henley exclaimed as she frantically typed stuff into the computer that was in front of her. "Do they know about this?"
"They who?" Atlas asked as he whizzed around stacking up papers for Jack to burn.
"They! Them! Whoever were working for!"
"Right. Who are we working for exactly? And are we prepared to go to jail for them?" Merritt asks adding more paper to the pile.
"Ok stop being paranoid," Atlas says dismissing Merritt.
"It really does happen!" Merritt replied truthfully.
"Yeh it happened to you doesn't mean it's going to happen to us!" Atlas spat still dismissive of everyone and everything.
"Guys I don't know if I can do this... I don't want to go to jail ya know?" Jack said nervously as he burnt paper stack after paper stack in the fireplace.
"Then don't screw up!" Atlas replied harshly. I gave jack a nervous smile for the split second we made eye contact before turning around not wanting to be on the receiving end of angry atlas. "You're always talking about wanting to be treated like an adult. Now might be a good time to start acting like one. Stick to the plan stay here and burn it all." He finished as he shoved a the final stack of papers into Jacks chest.
"What the hell are you doing Tess? Just standing there? Help for gods sake would you!" Atlas said glaring at me. I stepped backwards, surprised by the sudden act of anger towards me. I hesitantly pick up the paper that was scattered all over the apartment and placed them on the pile, sadness evident in my every move.
"I don't know what I'm doing here," Merritt said nonchalantly
"I don't know what you would be doing anywhere else," Danny spoke back still rushing.
"I'm here for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and that's it, then I'm gone," Merritt defended himself to the angry man
"You can do whatever you want when this is over Merritt but until then stick to the plan," Henley says adding to the tension in the room.
"Guys... uh... they're here..." I say finally getting the courage to talk as I peek through the window blinds. My stomach ties itself into knots and my breathing picks up.
"Okay let's do it," Merritt says as he walks out of the door holding his minimal belongings. We all follow but just as I was about to leave the apartment I turn around to look at Jack. He stood there in front of the fire watching me go.
"Please don't get hurt..." I say quietly as I take a step backwards towards the exit.
"Hurry up Tess lets go!" Atlas calls from the hallway and I sigh. I run back down the hallway and into the main room towards Jack.
"I'll see you soon Tessy..." He says as he embraces me in a hug
"Fucking hell Tess let's go! Now! Let go of him!" Atlas yells angrily and I slowly let go of Jack. He gives me a weak smile before I turn around and run out of the room to the agitated Atlas standing impatiently. "I don't know what I did to make you so pissed at me but for heavens sake please stop doing that with Jack!" He says as we rush to catch up with the others.
