"What is magic? Magic is deception but deception designed to delight to entertain, to inspire. It's about belief." Danny began the performance. He spoke looking directly into the camera which was projecting him onto the side of the building they were currently in.
"Faith," Henley said.
"Trust," I joined in.
"Without those qualities, magic as an art form would no longer exist," Merritts voice could be herd
"But what happens if these qualities are not used for their higher purpose? And instead used to cheat, lie," I ask
"For personal gain, or for greed? Well then it is no longer magic," Henley talked.
"It's crime," Merritt continued.
"And so tonight, for our final act, you are going to help us set a few things right," Henley said as we all have the cameras in front of us smiles. We turn them off and begin heading to the elevator that would take us to the roof. Just before we get in Danny walks back around and clicks a button which sent the dummy models arising to the roof, just to mess with the FBI.
We pile into the lift and it starts moving upwards. "Daniel? As our, let's call it, 'year of living dangerously' comes to a close..." Merritt is the first one to speak up. "In a rare moment of vulnerability, I'd like to express a sentiment to you about of relationship,"
"Okay..." he said ready to hear what insult Merritt was going to throw at him.
"Well when I first met you, I thought you were kind of a..." Merritt said gazing around the old, graffitied elevator as he tried to find the right word to finish his sentence. "A dick,"
"Okay..." Danny replied as he let out a small laugh like the rest of us.
"And?" Henley said as if there was more to Merritts sentence.
"Oh no, that's it," Merritt said and I grinned.
"That's very nice. I'm touched," Danny replied, for once not even snarkily.
"Yeah just from the heart," Merritt said placing his hands over his chest in the area of the heart.
"Well I didn't say where I was touched," Danny said smirking which made me laugh again. The conversations between the two from the past year were very entertaining to listen to.
"Oh you..." Merritt pretended to blush as he shook his head slightly.
"Oh god, what are we going to do when this is over?" Henley spoke.
"We're on our own. Our instructions run out after the show," Danny said bluntly. Once I'd told the others the personal aspects from my past they'd immediately gone back to calling him Danny, not Atlas.
"Even if there is no eye if we were completely played and end up in jail to the next 20 years... I just want you all to know that-" Henley said seriously.
"I know. Me too," Danny said nodding along with the memorable moment.
"Me too," I agree
"Woah, a little to sentimental for me," Merritt said as he turned around facing the wall of the lift.
"Aw Merritt c'mere!" I say as I walk to his corner of the lift. He turns around swiftly and embraced me in a hug. The other two join in and we stay like that until we reach the top of the building. "You guys have been amazing to me for the past year... I love you guys..." I say as my mind flashed through all the moments of the past year.
-
"Hello New York! Thank you for the magic!" Henley starts off our final show and the crowd immediately cheers. People surrounded the entire building, eagerly waiting to see what we had in store for them.
