A/N: Thank you guys so much for 6k!! This book is almost over just so you know.
"Jem?" Thomas asked, looking down at James, who was half asleep, tracing shapes on Thomas' arms absentmindedly.
"Hm?" James looked up at Thomas, raising an eyebrow.
"Can I take you out to dinner?" Thomas asked nervously, fiddling with his hands. He gave James a small smile, hoping he would say yes. "I just think it would be fun, we don't get out enough. Plus we haven't even been out on a date yet."
"Thomas you don't have to-"
"James," Thomas said, seriously. He knew that James had a tendency to deny gifts or anything people wanted to do for him, and he hated that. Thomas wanted to give James the world, and that would be hard if James wouldn't even let him by him dinner. "It's just dinner. Let me take you out, please?"
James gave him an exasperated look, knowing that it would be hard to argue with Thomas. "You don't have to, really. I'm not even that hungry."
"Now I know that's a lie James," Thomas said, his tone serious and firm. "You don't eat enough, Jem." James looked away from Thomas, his eyes darting towards the wall. "James, please look at me," Thomas pleaded, his voice soft. James complied with a sigh, looking up at Thomas reluctantly. "I know why you don't eat, but please baby, I need you to. Whatever they said to you, Reynolds, Lee, any of the guys that dated you, they don't matter. What they said doesn't matter. I think you're beautiful, Jemmy. I think you're the most beautiful person on the whole planet. Like I said, we're putting that behind us, it's just us, and only us, okay?"
"Okay," James said, giving Thomas a small smile.
"Does that mean you'll let me take you out?" Thomas said with a hope-filled tone. James nodded, making Thomas smile brightly. He lifted James before standing, pulling the shorter man into an embrace. "Can I tell you something before we go?" Thomas asked, looking down at James.
"Sure," James said, his head resting on Thomas' chest.
"You're the most important thing in my life, James," Thomas said, running his hand across James' short hair. "I love you so much. So fucking much, sugar."
Thomas didn't even realize James was crying until he heard the smaller man whimper into his chest.
"Jem?" Thomas asked, pulling away from James so that he could see his face. James' eyes were starting to puff up and redden from tears and he was biting his lip, trying to suppress the lump in his throat. "Why're you crying, baby?" Thomas asked with a concerned tone.
"B-Because you love me," James mumbled, wrapping his arms around Thomas' waist before breaking down, sobbing into Thomas' chest. "A-And I love y-you too," he got out between choked sobs.
"Oh James," Thomas said, a soft smile spreading across his face. "You don't need to cry."
"I know," James said, hugging Thomas tighter.
"You wanna go now?" Thomas asked, rubbing James' back. James nodded, wiping his face with the sleeves of his sweatshirt. "Okay," Thomas said before pulling away from James, holding his hand out.
James took it, lacing their fingers together happily. "Thomas, I have one request."
Thomas raised an eyebrow, still grinning. "And what might that be?" He asked, noticing the mischievous glint in James' eyes.
"Don't order mac and cheese," James said, giggling. Thomas' face darkened as if James had just asked him to do something as unorthodox as murder.
"That's insane, James."
