xxviii. A VIEW TO KILL
✢ ✢ ✢
Foster's hand clutched Stiles' with ferocity, practically crushing the bones that fabricated it. And, in return, Stiles held onto hers so tightly that her skin grew stark white. She was tugging him along, picking up her pace as quickly as she could, darting to the school. In her other hand was the wrench she had used only a minute earlier, the girl prepared to wield it if it deemed necessary.
She had a feeling it would be, but she wanted to avoid that, so she kept running.
"What the actual fuck is that?" she hissed, slamming the door open with her shoulder and stumbling into the school hallway.
Stiles nearly toppled inside, blood soaking into his flannel from where he was bitten. That boy had a set of fangs in the center of his palm. His palm. By the fangs just in his mouth, she knew he was a wendigo, like Sean. What else he was? That she didn't know.
However, he was a combination, and that meant chimera.
"Run," Stiles gasped, urging her forward. "Just run."
She couldn't really argue. Run now and question later seemed like a decent strategy to her. Especially since she had no idea how long he'd be out for.
"That's - that's Donovan," Stiles choked out in between breaths, the two taking down a corner.
Foster paused, trying to figure out where to go. Where it would be best to hide. "The guy who broke out of the car?"
Stiles' head was nodding up and down feverishly. All Foster really remembered was helping Scott try and catch that boy, the very one who had threatened Sheriff Stilinski. The realization made her heart do a flip, knowing that this wasn't a random chimera attack. This was planned - he had a vendetta against the Stilinskis. And that, inevitably, meant that surviving Donovan would be infinitely more difficult.
Foster went to make another turn, but Stiles was grasping at the back of her sweatshirt. She stumbled, being dragged toward the library. This could work, it could help them hide. However, at the same time, Foster wasn't entirely certain if being confined in a single room would help them get out of this. But the library had the most hiding places, and this could be their sanctuary for the night.
When he tried to tug the double doors open, they wouldn't give. It was locked. Of fucking course it was locked. Stiles desperately grasped at the doorhandles, and Foster was already running her slim fingers through her hair, desperately trying to figure out what to do.
The weight of her wallet sat in her back pocket, and she instantly reached for it. With her student ID card, she slid it through the card reader, watching as the small, red light flashed green. When he heard the soft beep, Stiles tugged the unlocked door open.
Stiles reached for Foster's hand, pulling her in behind him. Since sophomore year, the two of them have survived everything together. It wasn't until this summer did she learn that she had supernatural abilities. Before this, it was her and Stiles, the two who couldn't fight back with their fists, relying only on their wit.
So in a situation like this, they were a bit out of their league.
Her heart beat's in her ear, and her breaths are choppy. From running or from her panic, she wasn't entirely sure. All she knew was that her grip on Stiles' hand was tightening considerably. They eased their way into the library, the library which was still undergoing renovations. There was a scaffolding right behind them, but with all these tools, Foster knew there must have been a space to hide in.
