At some point during her conversation with Bellamy, Erica had fallen asleep.
Something about Bellamy being around her was calming, and her nightmares seemed to go away when he was near.
When dawn came the group continued their journey, trekking through the wilderness while staying as alert as possible. Erica's benevolent disposition was still nowhere to be found, and she could feel herself slowly losing it forever.
"We should be there by now. Who knows what they've been through since they left? They could be dead." Erica said, talking more to herself than the others.
"This is it." Bellamy announced as they all came to a stop.
Octavia was standing in front of the others, looking at the ancient monument the man she loved was named after.
"Which way to the village?" Clarke asked.
Octavia continued staring at the scene before her, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
"Octavia?"
"The Reapers came from there," The youngest girl's voice cracked as she pointed towards a man made path in the greenery. Finally, tears fell, and her older brother embraced her tightly.
"I couldn't save him, Bell. I couldn't save him."
It broke Erica's heart to see her friend go through so much pain. It wasn't just Octavia, all those who came down in the dropship had their fair share of hurt, and it just wasn't right. Octavia was really still a child, they all were.
The moment was interrupted by the sound of gunshots echoing through the trees.
Clarke, Octavia, Bellamy and Erica all looked at each other and started running towards the commotion the sound of the gunshots didn't stop, and the closer they got the more clearly they could hear screaming.
"Finn!" They heard Murphy scream.
The cries and pleads of grounders were terrifying things to hear, and they only made Erica wonder what kind of monster could be inducing so much fear into the people that massacred her own.
But what she wasn't expecting was the sight of her best friend emptying out several rounds of bullets into the bodies of innocent people. Her heart sunk and she stepped back in shock, or fear, or both.
"No!" Erica shouted, stumbling towards the fallen grounders.
A child lay on the muddy ground, bleeding out next to his mourning father. Octavia fell next to him, calling his name and crying softly.
A woman surrounded by a boy and another woman clutched her chest, removing her hand slowly and examining the blood flowing out of her body. Erica stepped toward them slowly and went to help.
When she neared the woman, the others cowered and hugged one another. They were scared of her. "Please," Erica whispered. "Let me try to help. I can help,"
She quickly slid off her pack and her jacket, pressing the fabric against the several gunshot wounds in an effort to stop the bleeding. It wasn't working, and when the woman's hand fell limp in her son's, Erica's blood went cold.
