Grayson's POV
I rush through pack grounds, quickly observing the panic surrounding me. Everyone is running to and from house, but the most popular place seems to be the pack doctor's office.
"What is going on?!" I demand as stop close to the main headquarters building.
"Thank you so much for coming at such an hour and on such short notice." I hear behind me. I quickly turn, meeting the previous pack Beta, Henry. He's an older man, just 3 years older than my father, but graying far worse than the Alpha. He begins pulling me towards that main office, within the headquarters, where all official pack business is discussed and dealt with.
"Why was I called over at 2 in the morning, away from my mate." I growl. Henry gulps, never having liked confrontation, and opening a door that I've never been to, and leading me to god knows where.
"We've got some serious trouble coming, Delta." He whispers. I frown as my mind runs off with every single possibility, from human discovery to rogue attacks.
"Who is 'we' in this situation, Henry?" I ask just as he opens yet another door, and pushes me into the room, where I come face to face with my parents (the Alphas), Cameron (the Beta), Ethan (the Gamma), and the Zeta who previously held their positions.
"By 'we', he means the entire pack, Grayson!" My dad growls. I'm shocked at his immediate aggressiveness.
"What type of trouble are we facing?" I ask, making my voice steel; cold and sharp, to match his. His eyes narrow and he points his finger.
"Trouble that you put us in." He growls lowly, earning a deep sigh from Cameron.
"Enough of the blame game, we still have to deal with it no matter who put us in it." She shoots me a look I can't place and sighs. "Now, dad, what type of trouble are we in?"
We all watch him with intensity like none other. He surveys the room and sighs.
"Exposure. Rogues. Attacks." He looks me dead in the eyes. "Our location was compromised. Now, we face the problem of uncertainty. Two rogues were brought in yesterday. We're going to need to get all the epsilon and Grayson," He grabs a stack of files. "These kappa must be found and your students need to be trained more than ever. Human school can wait, but our pack cannot."
I feel out of breath by the end of it. We have become targets, and it's all because I wanted to ensure safety in Jamaica 5 months ago. And fucked it up.
Once the meeting is over, I rush to help get emergency equipment for everyone and we stock up the underground safe house.
Shouting orders and directing movements comes naturally to me. After all, I am from two alpha bloodlines, this stuff is supposed to be second nature, but I'm finding it extremely difficult to keep up. My mind is preoccupied and I'm pretty sure everyone can tell.
"Grayson." Ethan walks up. I turn around quickly to face him.
"Yeah? What's up?" I cross my arms, trying not to seem as distracted as I truly am.
"I know you're thinking about Theo and Lia. Should you maybe go get them and have them sleep at mom's tonight? It'll make you feel a ton better and you'll stop giving slow ass orders." He chuckles softly, making me smile, even if it's just a small one.
"Yeah, would you be okay with taking over for a bit? While I go get them?" I hopefully ask.
He nods and I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you!" I hug him tightly and rush to the car, thinking of what I'll be telling my family as an excuse.
Driving home was quick, because I floored it, and the speed limit was... Surpassed. Upon entering the apartment, I could hear Thalia groaning in her sleep and Theo snoring softly.
I run up the stairs as quietly as possible and pack a bag for them each and then myself. After loading the bags into the car, I carry Theo to the couch and head to the bedroom to carry Thalia to the car.
As soon as I have her in my arms, she wakes up.
"Ugh, Gray." She mumbles, tensing up. "What's going on?" I bite my lip and stop.
"Do you wanna walk? I'll put you down if you do." She nods and I gently put her down. "Alright, let's go to the car."
I lead her downstairs and pick Theo back up, taking him to the car as well.
"I asked you what's going on." She yawns out. I sigh.
"There was a gas leak at the cabins and my dad asked me to come in and help but I feel better if I have you and Theo at my parents' place." I clench the steering wheel. I hate lying to her.
"Oh, okay." She pulls the blanket I left at her feet over herself and rubs her eyes.
After making sure that everything was good, I drive back to my parents' house and help them get settled before heading back to the pack houses.
"That was fast." Ethan smiles then bites his lip, "What'd you tell her?"
I run a hand through the messy locks piled on my head, "Gas leak here."
"It sucks that you have the only human mate from me, you and Cam." Ethan stretches and points for a kappa to place the crate next to the door.
"Don't you think I know?" I groan. "And to have her hidden from everything is freaking hard. Especially when this shit puts her and the kids in danger." I rub my face, trying to get rid of all of my emotions; worry, fatigue, anger, stress and everything else.
"Kids?" Ethan asks after a couple of silent seconds. My heart stops and I freeze.
"Theo." I gulp, "I meant Theo." I shoot a forced smile and step forward to distract him and speak to a confused kappa.
He mind links me instead.
"No, you said kids."
"And I meant Theo." I add a growl for effect, hoping he'd drop it.
"She's pregnant isn't she."
I outwardly sigh and turn to him.
"Yes, she is," I look around. "But you cannot tell a single soul!"
He shrugs and chuckles. "Why would that even interest me?"
"I don't know." I bite my lip. "I just don't need anyone knowing.
Ethan sets a hand on my shoulder and mind links me.
"Your secret is safe with me, brother."
