I gazed out the window while everyone was talking amongst themselves. Of course they were talking about me. That's all they ever do these days. Just because I'm a girl with no friends, they need to have something to talk about it.
"Poor girl. It must be sad sitting by herself."
"She's always sitting by herself."
"I hear she has no friends."
"Wow. I feel really bad for her."
See what I mean? I ignored their annoying gossip as I continued to gaze out the window. "Hey, don't listen to them. They always need to have something to talk about." A boy with brown hair said as he stood in front of my desk.
"It's fine. It doesn't bother me." I told him. "Here, have a cookie. I baked them for the class. I hope you like them." He said, handing me a cookie. I accepted it and took a bite out of it. "Wow, this is really good. Thank you. Um, do I know you?" I asked.
"No, we haven't met before. My name's Mahiru Shirota. It's nice to meet you." He said, holding out his hand to me.
"Likewise. I'm Eiko." I said, taking his hand and shaking it. He smiled at me and I smiled back.
The rest of the day, Mahiru and I chatted with his friends, talking about likes and dislikes.
Yep. The girl who's usually quiet and reserved is talking with friends. We chatted until the school day ended.
"See you guys, later." I said with a wave. I walked home until I remembered that I had to run errands. I went to the store, but I couldn't find anything that I needed. Truth be told, I made a list and I didn't bring it with me, so I was pretty much lost.
I sighed, knowing I wouldn't get what I needed. So, I walked back to the house. As I was walking, I spotted Mahiru with Ryusei and Koyuki.
"Is this a joke?" Koyuki asked. "Is what a joke?" I asked as I walked up to them. "Mahiru says, his cat is really a vampire." Ryusei mentioned. "A vampire?" I looked at the cat Mahiru was holding. "Aw, he's so cute." I commented with a small smile.
"He can turn into a human! Come on, Kuro! Speak! Show them what I'm talking about! Why don't you say something?!" Mahiru yelled at the cat. "Mahiru, calm down. It's just a cat." I said. "He's not a cat! He's a vampire!" He argued.
I raised a brow at him, thinking he's lost it. Did he bump his head on something? "Ugh! How can I prove that I'm telling the truth?!" Mahiru said. Suddenly, a man in a classy outfit appeared in front of us as he started babbling about a show.
"Amazing! It's some kind of street performance!" Koyuki said, amazed. When Ryusei ignored the street performer, everything went downhill when the performer suddenly bit him. Ryusei fell to the ground while his neck was gushing out blood.
Everyone screamed and ran while I stayed where I was, my face emotionless. "So, it begins." I mumbled. As the street performer went to strike me with his sword, I did a backflip, leaping towards a wall before kicking off, dashing towards him.
He quickly dodged out of the way, making me do a front roll until I stopped in a crouching position. "This is gonna be a problem. Big brother always told me to be careful when I'm out here alone. Why is that I never listen to him?" I mumbled as I landed in a crouching position.
"Hahahaha! Go ahead and try to fight me, little girl! You'll just get yourself killed!" The street performer yelled. "You're very loud. That's also gonna be a problem." I mentioned. I frowned at him, getting ready to fight until Mahiru grabbed the performer from behind.
"Go, Eiko! Run! Now!" He yelled. I stared at him in shock as I stayed there, frozen. Where did he come from? Didn't he run off with that cat? 'I should probably go now before I blow my cover.' I thought, wisely.
"Now, Eiko! Run!" Mahiru repeated. Without a second thought, I ran off. "If he thinks he can take him on his own, that's gonna be a real problem." I said as I ran off.
