Later that day, I tried looking for Uncle Tsubaki, but he was nowhere to be found. Mikuni, Uncle Doubt Doubt, and I went home after that and things slowly started getting back to normal.
The three of us have been getting along better than ever. Even Black Rabbit and I have been getting along a bit better. While Mikuni and Uncle Doubt Doubt were working in the shop, Black Rabbit and I were in my room, listening to some music, playing videogames, and eating snacks.
"Here, listen to this one." I said, giving him the headphones. "This one's way better than the last song." He commented. "You said that about the last song you listened to," I laughed at his humor.
"Wait here, I'm gonna go get some more food. I'm in the mood for something sweet." I said, getting off the bed and heading downstairs.
Once I got more snacks, I went back up to my room and found Black Rabbit acting all hyper. "I didn't even feed you sweets. Why are you acting all hyper?" I asked as I climbed into bed. "A freaking fox was here just now! I had to chase him out of here!" He said.
"A fox? Are you sure you weren't just hallucinating like you normally do? Last time, you were able to convince me that a goat managed to get into the room." I mentioned, bluntly. "This is for real this time! There really was a fox in here! Oh, and here! He left a note, too!" Black Rabbit said.
"A note?" I repeated. He showed me the note and handed it to me. I unfolded it and began to read it.
Dear Eiko,
"I'm sorry I lied to you. I didn't mean to deceive you. I guess I just got so excited about learning I had a niece, I couldn't help but the feeling of wanting to meet you. I understand if you're upset with me, and I understand if you don't wish to see me ever again. But I still love you, and not in the way you think. Hehe... Anyway, I'm sure someday the two of us will meet again, and I hope we get to start over.
Your uncle, Tsubaki.
"Oh, Uncle Tsubaki. I was never mad at you for using me. I was just afraid you'd might make a mistake and regret it later." I said, smiling at the note. But I do hope we get to met again in the future. I looked out the window and pictured my mother's smiling face before she left me.
She told me that she'd come back someday, and I'll be waiting. I just need to be patient. Even though I may never know the answers to why my mother left, I'm sure she had a good reason. I know I wasn't burden to her and I know she loved me dearly.
I still love my mother and I've decided not to kill her because it wouldn't get me anywhere, and it wouldn't change anything for me. Instead of feeling accomplished, I'd feel regret and sorrow. But I'm sure my mother and I will meet again.
And when we do, I'll finally get the answers I've been longing for.
