-Simone POV-"Baby girl." I felt a hand on the lower of back.
I jumped a little at the touch but sighed when Jason's dark hair came into view beside me.
"Oh, hey." I smiled surprisingly.
He frowned. "Why the jump? Who else were you expecting." His hand left my body, I could tell he wanted to start something.
I leaned against my locker. "Nobody else, Jason. Really?"
He noticed my annoyance and leaned closer, pecking my nose. "I know baby, and I love you for that."
"I love you too." I spluttered out, feeling like those words were foreign for us now.
"Listen, I'm meeting up with the guys this weekend. We're gonna watch the games so I'll have to skip your family deal on Sunday." Jason said, running his hands over my arms.
"My aunt wanted to meet you." I said, frustrated that I'd told everyone Jason would be there.
"Babe, cmon. They're moving here so I'd be seeing - "
"Okay Jason." I nodded. "I understand, I do."
"Thank you." He smiled and pecked my cheek. I almost laughed at how he ignored the edge in my voice - solely to not feel guilty.
The bell for first period rang, cutting our conversation. I was glad to get out of the hallway and into my favorite class - English.
"I'll see you later then." I said and shut my locker.
"Goodbye kiss?" Jason pulled me against him. I felt this grip in his hand and quickly kissed his lips - he wanted more. But I pulled away.
Jason winked and jutted off behind me to his class. I exhaled slowly - catching Jack Gilinsky's eyes across the hallway as I walked off. Our eyes meeting with an emotion of some kind.
Then he looked away and continued the conversation with Johnson and Carter Reynolds.
I shrugged the moment off and continued to class.
-
"Can anyone else besides Simone answer the questions?" Mrs Hatfield asked, tapping her foot of the ground.
I sunk into my chair, knowing that the snorts and laughter would come. I was usually unbothered by it, loving school and everything about English. But this time, I could feel everyone shoot me daggers.
"Anyone - " Mrs Hatfield began but was interrupted by a deep voice coming from behind me.
"Simone isn't the only one who knows about Othello. I'd have to disagree with her statement, Mrs Hatfield."
I turned around.
Jack Gilinsky smiled at me.
"Do explain, Jack." Mrs Hatfield peered over her glasses. I faced the front again, waiting to hear his lame explanation.
"Watch him fuck this up." Johnson hollered from the back.
Jack cleared his throat. "Simone basically said that she loves Othello because of the love and tragedy but I don't think the two should ever be considered a comparison."
My ears perked up.
"Yes, Othello loved Desdemona at first but it became toxic and full of mistrust et cetera. And there's a fine line between loving someone and possessing them."
I turned around. "He didn't possess her, Gilinsky."
"Oh yeah?" Jack raised his brow. A small smirk perk on his lips.
"He didn't want to lose her, had the affair been true." I argued across.
Jack frowned. "So he killed her instead because he didn't wanna lose her? That is ridiculous."
I opened my mouth to retort but someone beat me to it.
"And you know soooo much about love, Gilinsky?" A girl called from the front causing the class to snicker, including Jack himself.
"Alright alright! Enough of this back and fourth. Everyone open their guide lines and begin assessment 14." Mrs Hatfield clapped her hands.
I faced the front. A small smile played on my lips, despite having needed to have the last say.
-Jack POV-
English class had ended, everyone so eager to leave the boring old class that smelled like old lady potpourri.
I don't know what had came over me during class, the whole smack down with Simone. It was something I'd never done before, while Simone rushed out of class so soon I didn't know if she was mad or not.
I followed behind her.
"Woah woah." I caught up to Simone just as she rounded the corner to her locker. "You're running away from the argument?"
Surprisingly, Simone chuckled. "You know I'd take you down, I have Calculus to get to."
I laughed. "You talk a big game, I think I had you back in Mrs H's class."
"Thank goodness one of your fans had stopped you." Simone rolled her eyes.
Usually, I would indulge in the self confidence or whatever but coming from her - it just stung.
"Otherwise I would have schooled you, kid." I stuck my hands in the back pocket of my jeans, not sure what to say or do now.
Simone mimicked me - sticking her hands in the back pockets of her jeans too. "Guess I should watch my back now." A smile spread across her face.
I smirked.
We smiled at each other for a few seconds before the bell rang - breaking up the banter session.
"Shoot! Gilinsky, I've got to go." She dashed off before I could offer to walk her.
Instead of walking to my next class which wasn't Calculus - I watched Simone scramble for her books then jog to her class. I didn't realize I was caught up until she looked back and noticed me staring.
She laughed from across the room and shook her head. I just shrugged - no point in denying my staring.
"Yo!" Johnson patted my back. "Are you okay in life man?"
I felt giddy. "What?"
"What you mean what?" Johnson raised a brow. "You know shit about Othello man."
I chuckled. "Ah my home boy."
"What's wrong with you?" He frowned.
"Good question." I nodded as he shook his head and pulled me to our next lesson.
But I was fuzzy, definitely nothing to do with the fact that it was a Friday.

I loved this chapter! In 12th grade we did Othello (last year) and I still remember so I decided to spice it up!
