-Simone POV-
I came around to his side and saw what - or rather who he was looking at - and finally realized why Jack was shook.
His ex girlfriend - Madison Beer stood next to our teachers desk.
"Earth to Jack" I nudged the kid gently.
Jack shook his head and looked at me sheepishly, shock still evident on his gorgeous face. He stuttered. "O-oh its not like that." he chuckled but looked at Madison again with surprise just as she turned around and looked our way.
Madison's eyes flickered between Jack and I standing right beside each other, closely. Her brows furrowed when they met mine and then relaxed when they landed on Gilinsky. My fists had balled up automatically - I wasn't sure why - Jack and I weren't like that.
Jack stood their dumbfounded - I didn't bother with Madison. None of us had known her well as kids growing up so its not like we had an opinion of her. And I was not a puppy dog obsessed with Gilinsky. So I what was best:
I left Gilinsky to gawk at his estranged lover and walked to my usual desk behind Savanah who was waiting for me with crossed arms.
One thing: she suspected.
"You have the register to spill the beans or we walk out of the room as ex best friends."
I laughed. "Savana!"
"Simone." She looked at me with a straight face.
I cleared my throat and tried not to notice Jack slid in beside Johnson but looking at me. I hope he knew I wasn't touched by this, even if I was.
"Madison moved back." Savana said when I didn't respond. "Everyone was shocked too - mainly because things ended so rough with G."
"Like how?"
"You weren't around during their fights and stuff." Savana pulled out licorice from her bag and handed me a loop, our usual snack. "Apparently the hate was intense, chick had to move."
"I didn't know her well." I looked pass Sav to Madison chatting with our register.
God, were we gonna be in the same classes? I hoped not. Not that I didn't like Madison - I don't know why exactly.
Savana raised her brow. "Problematic af."
"Don't say that." But I wanted to know more. "Do you know how or why they broke up?"
"Nobody knows - rumors of Madison cheating but I think there's more."
I shrugged. "Whatever, I was just intrigued."
"You mean jealous?"
I scoffed. "Over what?"
"Gilinsky." Savana shot back.
I shook my head but met Jack eyes over Savana's shoulder again. He offered a small apologetic grin, but I looked away as if not noticing.
Yikes Simone.
"Look." Savana touched my hand. "All jokes aside. What's going on, Sim? I can see in your eyes that you have a soft spot for G and he does for you but this is...messy? What about Jason?"
"I love him." I said automatically.
Savana sighed. "Yeah but ask yourself who the 'him' actually is."
That hit me.
"I'm just not happy with Jason." I admitted. "Not at all Sav."
