Dereks POV

I was shaking as I exited the gallery. I was just so relieved that Meredith had survived through the surgery, but I knew that she would have to wake up and survive the next few days. As I walked down the hall I saw Meredith's friends and fellow interns conversing as they got back to work, some of her closer friends teary eyed. I walked the halls dazed, and lost in my mind. I walked up to the attending lounge and grabbed a new pair of scrubs because mine seemed to be covered in Meredith's blood. I walked down to my office in the neurology department. I sat at my desk my head in my hands. I sat thinking for about an hour before I decided to walk down to the ICU recovery ward to visit Meredith. I was stood in the elevator about four floors above the ICU Addison stepped on the elevator. She looked at me and stood in silence for a while before she stopped the elevator. "Did you know? Were you gonna tell me? What's gonna happen to us?" she said shakily, tears pooling in her eyes. "I didn't know... I didn't know until that day. I don't know what's going to happen to us" I said looking at her sadly. She started the elevator again and we rode in silence until I stepped off the elevator and into the halls of the ICU. I walked slowly down the hall. I was terrified of what I might see when I walked into Meredith's room. I hadn't seen her since she was lying open on the surgical table. As I approached Meredith's room I prepared myself for what I might see, for a Meredith hooked up too many different machines, for a Meredith with a tube still lodged in her throat to help her breathe. As I stood in the doorway to Meredith's room my fears just about came true. She was hooked up to these different machines, but there was a nurse removing her breathing tube because she was breathing on her own. I could hardly breathe seeing her like that. It made me sick to my stomach seeing such a strong, beautiful woman lying there. She was pale from losing so much blood. She looked tired. Her body looked as though she had taken a major beating. I staggered into the room as the nurse walked out. I lifted Meredith's chart and looked over it. Her chart showed improvement, Minor improvement, but improvement. I sat down in the chair next to her bed, I sat there looking over my patients charts all day. Cristina stopped in every time she got a chance. I didn't get much done. Most of my shift was spent holding Meredith's hand and telling her unconscious body that she would be just fine. I had spent the entire day in the hospital, and spent the night as well. It was around 2 in the morning when Meredith started to stir. Around the same time Dr. Monty walked in. "Hey Derek" she said leaning in the doorway. "Hi Monty" I said softly. I was exhausted. She walked over and sat next to me. I leaned on her shoulder. "Do you need anything Derek?" she said putting her arm around me. "Could you grab me a coffee?" I said reaching into my pocket for my wallet. "Sure, I'll pay... How do you like your coffee?" she said sweetly. "Can you get me a large black coffee?" I asked looking at her. My face felt tired, almost as though I had been crying all day. "Ya, sure hon" she said standing up. Her voice was soothing. She had a mixed accent, it was mostly English with a hint of German. She was mostly German and Belgian, but she moved to London when she was seven. She was gone for about 15 minutes before returning with my coffee and a latte of her own. "Thank you Monty" I said taking my coffee. "No problem Derek" she said sitting next to me. "Monty, do you ever sleep? I mean you never seem to sleep" I asked. "Well Derek I have trouble sleeping, often times I only get a few hours of sleep per night" She said leaning back on the couch. "Oh... well what brings you to this side of the country?" I asked looking into her bright green eyes. "Well, I came here to treat a cancer patient of mine" she said. We continued chatting until I became so tired I couldn't focus anymore. I leaned over onto my best friend Monty's shoulder and dosed off as she wrapped her arm around me.

I woke up a few hours later around 4:30 am. Monty had fallen asleep and awoke as I sat up. I looked over to Meredith's bed and saw that she looked better. "So, were you close to her?" Monty asked softly. "Yea... Monty... she's pregnant and... well... it's most likely mine" I said my voice quivering as I spoke. "Derek... She'll pull through this" She said putting her hand on my shoulder. "If you every need to talk I will always be here" she said softly. After about another hour Meredith began to stir. Monty looked up and said "Looks like someone is awake". I stood up and walked over to the bed. "Hey there..." I said a large smile spreading across my face. "Hi" Mer said her voice raspy. "I am so glad you are okay" I said holding her hand. After a few minutes I paged Cristina so she would know that Meredith was awake. "Meredith can we talk about this?" I asked. "Derek... I don't want to be a home wrecker. I don't want someone who doesn't want me. I also don't want to force you to make any rash decisions" She said her voice weak. "Meredith... I do love you. That night in the bar I fell in love with you, and I haven't stopped loving you since. I will support you if you will accept y support" I said pushing her hair off of her face. "I love you so much" I said softly.

Merediths POV

I could feel someone's presence when I was out. As I was waking up I could hear two voices conversing in my room. I recognized Dereks voice, but there was this smooth feminine voice with a mix between an English and German accent. I couldn't make out what they were saying. But I recognized his voice. All I wanted was to wake up and see Derek, and know that I was okay, and that my baby is okay. Once I awoke Derek was stood beside me holding my hand. While we conversed all I could think about was if he really loved me. I mean did he ever love me?
