Merediths POV
***12 Weeks later***
Chief Webber stood giving a speech about new working terms, for the interns weren't exactly behaving like angels when Derek walked up behind me. "Hey you..." he said. "Hey... can you believe this? Now I don't have any interns!" I said looking over to him. "Well I don't see why that's a problem?" he said moving closer to me. "The problem is that I need to do surgeries and not SCUT. I need to continue perfecting the techniques Monty has been teaching me" I said agitatedly. "Mer... you need to slow down. You are 2 weeks away from your due date" He said concerned. "I'm pregnant, not sick" I stated as we were dismissed. "Meredith" he said looking down at me. "I have a surgery to get to" I said walking away. Maybe he is right, and I should slow down. My belly is huge and I have the center of balance of a cow.
***In the O.R.***
Monty stood across from me as we resected a large tumor in this patient's intestines. "I heard it is supposed to rain today" She stated out of the blue. "Yea, but we are in Seattle, so it rains a lot" I said confused by the conversation. Monty's hands seemed to work effortlessly as she resected the last of the tumor and repaired the intestine. "Great work Grey" Monty said as she closed the incision. "I hardly did anything. You are the one who deserves the credit" I said. "You did an excellent job repairing the intestine... you sure are your mother's daughter" She said as we exited the O.R. "Thank you" I said gratefully. "So, when is our next surgery" I asked hopefully. "You will be scrubbing in with me at 3:30 this afternoon" she stated as she finished scrubbing out. "But that's in 6 hours" I said surprised. "Grey, you need to relax and slow down. I know you aren't sick, but I can't have you endangering yourself or your baby with undue stress" Monty said as we walked toward the nurse's station. "Fine" I said angrily. Just then Monty handed me a binder. "I also need you to study hard for this next surgery. I will be allowing you to perform some if not most of it" Monty said gazing down at me. "Really?!" I said surprised. "Yes Grey really" Monty said as she began to walk away.
***in a conference room***
I sat studying hard and practicing for Monty's surgery when Derek walked in. "Didn't I tell you to take it easy?" he said jokingly. "I can't, Monty is going to allow me to perform most of her next surgery" I said excitedly. "Really... what is the surgery" He asked hovering behind me. "Brain tumor resection" I said excitedly. "Wow... good luck. I know you will do great" Derek said as he looked over the charts. "Thanks" I said obviously blushing.
***after the surgery***
Monty had stayed true to her word and allowed me to perform most of the procedure. "Great job Grey. I have no doubt in my mind that you are the best in your class" She said as she scrubbed out. "Thank you so much Monty. That was amazing" I said exasperatedly. "That's the job Grey that's the job" she said as she walked away.
It was around 9:00 pm and it was pouring rain. As I walked to my car. I was very reluctant to drive home.
