(Forth)
My first academic year as an Engineering student passes by quickly as I have anticipated. I am actually wondering what I was doing all those days to not have noticed the time. Once we have come to realize it, we're starting our second year.
We. Are. No. Longer. The. Freshmen.
Hah! Should we celebrate because we're now part of the hazing team and not the fresh meat to grill? It just feels so good to be addressed P', though we still have our upper seniors. Those freshmen are like scared puppies looking at us. Are we also like that before? Perhaps. But, we will surely enjoy this upper hand we have over them. But, of course, we're just kidding. We promise not to abuse this power. We're just trying to scare them a little.
"Good morning, freshmen! I'm P'Tae. I'll be in charge of you from this day on!"
You must be wondering why a different person was introducing himself as the hazing leader when previously I said that P'Kong, last year's hazing leader, chose me as the next in his line? I am already part of the hazing team, however I will get to be the leader on my third year. P'Tae was chosen by P'Kong's senior. So that's how it works.
From time to time, we're showing off our power over these freshmen whenever they won't be listening with P'Tae. We're shouting and glaring at them to stop them from their misbehavior. I couldn't help comparing if we were also like them because they loved to shout at us before. When we were at their feet, we hated our seniors for doing it on us... However, now that we're in different scenario, I feel like twisting the neck of these brats. Most of them are blatantly displaying their disinterest.
"You! Why are you using your phone?! Don't you have respect for your senior!" P'Tae yelled.
If these brats wouldn't stop, we might get in trouble on our first day. P'Tae's known for having a short temper.
"Stand up and surrender your phone!" The kid didn't follow. "I said stand up and surrender your phone!!"
P'Tae's about to explode. My fellow hazing team turns to one another as if they know, just like I know, what will be happening next. If it did, it will be disaster. So, we have to take an action.
Since I'm the nearest to that kid, I volunteer to go and stand ahead of him. He has the guts to be this insolent on the first day. He stares up at me with a complete annoyance on his face as I stretch out my hand to him.
"Give me you phone before I forcefully take it from you," I ordered in my most serious tone.
He continues staring at me...until he put his phone on my palm. He doesn't seem to be scared by the way I am looking at him. I am fully aware that I can be forbidding when I'm serious. Many have said it... including him. But, this kid did give his phone because, more likely, he realises his mistake by the way his expression changed.
I glance at his name tag before I turn away to walk towards P'Tae where I hand over the phone.
"You'll only get it if you will run 100 lapses here in this gymnasium. If you can't do it...your friends probably can..."
But P'Tae doesn't have to say it twice nor order it to everyone because the kid stands up and starts to run. He's really something else. I don't know if he's just too confident of himself to do it, or he's a fool trying to test our patience. Whatever he is between the two, he already attracts everyone's attention. Funny thing is, he has a too girly name for that kind of personality. Mingkwan.
P'Tae growls at the other freshmen who dare to look at him.
Despite of it, we are all eager to know if he can pull it off or he's just a bold empty spirit.
