*Adriana's POV*
Half an hour goes by and Jacob has not yet returned. Everyone has seemed to calm down. They each occupy a seat on the couches in the lounge except for Renesmee. She's in the kitchen, getting something to eat. What could be taking Jacob so long? I wonder...

"Adriana?" Alice calls out cautiously.

I sigh defeatedly. "What is it now Alice?"

"Can I ask you a question?" She asks slowly.

"If you don't ask it now, you'll irritate me another time. So yes, you may." I rub my eyes wif my palms before looking in her direction. She sits next to Jasper, holding his hand in her lap as he rubs, what i assume to be, soothing circles on them.

"How is it that Edward could not read your mind last night and now as well? But I saw your future... I mean last night I couldn't see your future but when you wanted to attack Edward, I saw it... And Jasper, he can't feel your emotions at all..." She trails off, frowning slightly.

I shake my head from side to side. I was expecting such a question to pop up sooner or later. "An Alpha's mind needs to be protected, Alice, for in it lies secrets no other should know. In a pack, the most private mind is that of the Alpha's. The rest are open books except if you retaliate. In my blood line, members of the pack don't have that option. For the safety and survival of my pack, every member's thoughts, emotions and memories are easily accessable to me. And so, my mind needs to be protected. Alphas in my bloodline have a so called shield around their mind, its automatic. But can be controlled. The reason you saw my future was because my determination to hurt Edward was strong and I was distracted. Unconsciously, my shield works well but consciously, it works even better." As I finish off, Renesmee walks into the room with a sandwich in hand. Quietly, she takes a seat next to her parents.

"I did not know you get different werewolf bloodlines,"  Carlisle speaks up, leaning forward and watching me curiously.

"There's only two. There's the werewolves and then there's my pack." I answer simply.

'Alpha!' Silk yells as she pounces onto me from no where causing me to fall back on the couch. I swear she's too excited at times. She needs to calm down. Silk places her paws on my chest and purrs as her black orbs bore into my grey ones. I frown as I can feel tension radiating off her body in waves.

'What is it, Silk? What's wrong?'

'Black is changing, Alpha Venom...' She says softly, lowering her gaze. I sigh and cradle Silk in my arms as I stand up slowly from the couch. Almost immediately, Jacob walks through the front door with Black in his arms. He caresses Black's soft fur gently.

"Something is wrong with him." Jacob states, his eyes never leaving the black bundle laying ever so still in his arms.

"Was he like this when you fetched them?" I ask as I move towards Jacob.

"He was perfectly normal when I got to river. We were half way to the house and suddenly Black started hissing and, dare I say it, growling too. He ran off somewhere and Silk ran after him. I tried to catch up but these cats are abnormally fast... Even for me." Jacob looks at me and shakes his head from side to side. "What are they?" He asks.

"They're protectors, Jacob. The Alpha's protectors." I respond, trailing my eyes from Jacob's face down to Black. His breathing is shallow and I can feel the pain his going through.

'Alpha, please. Take his pain away. I can't bare to see him like this...' Silk begs, her claws lightly digging into my arm.

'I cannot, Silk. Even if I wanted to... This pain is meant to be felt just like the pain I felt when i shifted for the first time... As you said Silk, Black is changing. And you will soon after.'
