Anna's POV.

The bell for the next class rings, and everyone in PreCalc quickly stands up to leave. I close my book and notebook, packing up my bag.

Kaliyah stands up after me. She puts her backpack on. "What's your next class?" She asks.

"AP Geography. But it's online so I get to chill in the halls," I say. She nods. "Lucky you! I have ceramics," She says. I nod. "Do you like it?" I ask.

She nods. "For the most part. I just hate everyone in the class. I'm an artistic person, so I take it seriously. They just take it for the extra credit," She says. I nod.

We walk out of the class, and part our ways. I walk to the study lounge. I open the door and see Alexia sitting with some guy from my AP literature class. I feel my stomach churn, as my hate towards her grows.

I step back and let the door close. I turn around, and make my way to the media center.

I don't want anything to do with her, so I'll keep my distance.

I sit down in a bean bag in the back of the media center. I grab my phone from the side pocket of my bag. I read my texts from Jace.

Jace: what are you up to?

Anna: avoiding alexia at all costs. I just ran into her.

Jace: was she a bitch?

Anna: I didn't talk to her. I just saw her in the study lounge. I don't have a set classroom this hour, since my course is online.

Jace: id like to see you two fight again.

Anna: fuck you

Jace: :)

Anna: guess who showed up to Denny's yesterday for a family dinner to celebrate the new school year except he didn't invite his oldest kid!

Jace: Todd Carson?

Anna: the legend!

Jace: that actually made me laugh out loud.

Anna: Me too. 😂

Jace: can you come over after school?

Anna: I think so. I don't work today.

Jace: nice.

Anna: I'll come over after school.

Jace: sleepover?

Anna: id have to leave around 6:00 in the morning :/

Jace: idc

Anna: okay 😂 then I'll come a little later.

Jace: :)

***

Jace and I lay on the sandy beach, staring at the sky. Jace gently plays with my hair while we watch the stars and listen to the soft, calming sound of the waves from the water.

I gently close my eyes, resting my head against his chest.

"It's way past curfew," He says softly.

I crack a grin. "So?"

Jace turns his head to me. "Shouldn't we be going home?"

I sigh. "I love it this way. I don't want to change it," I say softly. Jace smiles, and gently kisses my lips.

We stay there for a bit longer, until we finally get the energy to get up.

Jace stands up, and pulls me up with him. We walk to his car, feeling the cool breeze blow by. We get in his car, and buckle our seat belts.
