Anna's POV.
Friday night was great. Kaliyah, Jace, Corey, Sean, and I, all hung out at Corey's. We ended up getting sushi and watching horror movies. Kaliyah really enjoyed hanging out with the four of us.
During lunch time, I sit with Cailyn outside on the sidewalk. I unwrap my chicken salad wrap from the cafeteria. Cailyn opens her cheeseburger.
"So I heard the next project for AP gov, we'll need partners. You in?" She asks.
I nod while taking a bite of the wrap. "Yeah!" I say. She smiles.
"Oh my god, Anna. I totally forgot to ask you, do you listen to blackbear?" She asks.
I nod excitedly. "Yeah! I love him!"
Cailyn smiles. "He's coming to San Diego next week. Do you wanna go?" She asks.
My eyes widen. "No way, you'd take me?" I ask. She nods. "Yeah! Just get your parents permission."
I smile.
"My friend Alexia's going with us as well," She adds.
I glance up as I take a bite from the wrap. "Alexia?" I ask, after chewing and swallowing.
She nods. "Alexia Michaelson," she says.
I feel my stomach churn. I sigh. "Um-"
"Do you not like her?"
I look at Cailyn. "I have a really bad past with her. She's a bitch to me and, im not sure I should go."
Cailyn nods. "I really want you to, Anna!"
I smile. "I'd love to, but Alexia hates me."
Cailyn sighs. "I can try and make sure you aren't around her?"
I look down. "If I go, I'm sure I'll be able to keep my distance," I say rolling my eyes. She smiles.
"Thank you, Anna," she hugs me. I smile as I hug her.
***
I walk to the kitchen in Gamma's house. My mom stands at the counter, reading a magazine. She gently taps her finger nails against the counter.
"Mom?" I ask.
She looks up. "Yeah?" She replies.
"So my friend wanted to take me to a blackbear concert next Friday. Is it okay if I can go?" I ask.
She nods. "LA?" She asks.
I bite my lip. I shake my head. "San Diego," I say.
Her eyes widen. "San Diego? Anna, that's too far. Shes driving?" She asks.
"No, someone else is. But her mom booked a hotel and everything. I'd be back the next day!" I say.
"Anna, I'm not sure," She shakes her head.
"Please mom? I love him and I really wanted to go!" I beg.
She tilts her bead back. She sighs. "Will there be adult supervision?"
"She's eighteen," I say.
My mom rolls her eyes. "Parents?" She asks.
I shake my head.
She squints her eyes. "I can't let you go there hours with a bunch of teenagers and stay in a hotel without a parent," She says.
I shrug. "Mom!" I yell.
"Savannah! You knew I'd say no. It was dumb of you to ask," She says. I sigh.
"What if I clean the house? Your car? Take the twins out for dinner? Pass my AP lit test?"
"You can do all that, but you're still not going," She shakes her head. She turns around and walks to the sliding glass door.
"Mom!"
"Anna, that's enough! You're not going, get over it!" She yells.
I roll my eyes, triggered with annoyance.
The doorbell rings. I turn around and walk to the front door, stepping on a chew toy from Gamma's beagle, Honey.
I open the front door and see Jace standing on the front step. He wears his long sleeved maroon t-shirt and jeans. My eyes widen as smile. "What are you doing here?" I ask, moving out of the way. Jace steps inside, closing the door behind him. He tilts his head.
"You don't remember how you literally asked me to come over about an hour ago?" He asks.
I laugh. "Right!" I say. He chuckles. "So what's up?" He asks. I lead him to the hallway.
"Hi Jace!" My mom shouts from the kitchen. Jace waves to her. "Hi Rebecca!" He says.
"I need to talk to you about something," I say. I lead him to the basement doors, walking downstairs.
"Should I be scared with that tone of voice?" He asks.
I purse my lips. "Maybe. It's not necessarily good," I say.
I walk into my bedroom, turning on the light and closing my door. Jace plops down on my bed. He lays on his back, resting his head on my pillow.
I lay down next to him, resting my head on his shoulder.
"So Cailyn invited me to a blackbear concert next weekend. But Alexia's going as well," I say.
Jace's eyes widen. "And you're going?"
I sigh. "It sounds like I'm not. My mom won't let me," I say.
He smirks. "You're gonna let that stop? If you wanna go, go!"
I squint my eyes. "So you're saying I should just run off with Alexia and Cailyn to San Diego for the night?"
He nods. "Come on, Anna! You'll have fun if you go. If you don't, you'll regret it," He says.
I nod. "Would you cover for me if I said I went to your house after school?" I ask.
He nods. "Yeah, sure!"
I smile. "I'm probably going to end up driving myself," I say, sighing.
"What if I come with?" He asks.
"She only has one extra, and it's sold out," I say. He purses his lips. "Are you gonna get with Alexia?" He asks.
I laugh. "Hopefully not, but I'm pretty sure it'll happen at some point," I say. Jace laughs. He gently intertwines his fingers with my mine as he holds my hand.
I feel the same tickle in my throat, causing me to start coughing to let it out. Except my cough becomes hoarse, sounding as if I'm hacking.
"Are you sure you don't need some medicine for that? It sounds like you're coughing up mucus," Jace says.
I nod, softly beating my chest with my hand. "It's definitely mucus. But I think if I get some cough drops, I'll be good."
"Maybe the doctor?"
"No! I hate the doctor!" I bark. Jace smirks. "Anna, you should go if it gets worse. You don't know what it could be," He says.
I roll my eyes. "I've had it before. It's fine," I argue. Jace shakes his head.
